2 Handed Melee with Necromancer?

I’m still relatively new to this game and I’ve been playing around the idea of making a 2 handed melee necromancer, seeing all those skills to aether damage and melee procs has grabbed my interest, and I was wondering if it was possible to do it. I was thinking of doing Necro/Shaman with Savagery but I wasn’t sure if it was going to be good or not.

Anyone got any other ideas for a necro 2 handed melee build? Thanks!

I’m using Necro/Shaman Primal Strike (No transmuter)/Reaping Strike/Spectral Binding/Brute force etc.

So far at Lvl 44 and absolutely destroying everything with average gear. Lots of fun and the only other skill used so far is Wendigo Totem.

Necro/Arcanist would probably work well too - Aether/Elemental

finished ultimate with a 2H reaper. was pretty strong throughout all 3 campaigns. by the end of ultimate, it became a bit un-fun since i only found 3 or so minor gear upgrades on the whole ultimate playthough.

i guess if i had the persistence to farm mythical replacements for all the outdated gear, he would also rock ultimate NP.

here’s the current (and probably final) state of the build:

I guess you could do it with other gear, but im doing a 2hd melee vitality ritualist, it worked rather well just completed vet aom.

Was actually looking into Reaper’s and spent a great deal theorycrafting for my WiP low level Reaper. Does Bone Harvest proc the Necro Passives? Was having a hard time getting over the class’s lack of a natural spammable LMB melee skill.

But that changes if Bone Harvest actually procs the Reaping Strike and Necrotic Edge.

No it doesn’t, they only proc off of default weapon attack and auto attack replacers.

sigh… i knew it was too good to be true… guess caster reaper it is…

those weapon pool skills are pretty irrelevant overall. most of the damage is from bone harvest, ring of steel, blade burst and shadow strike. i use blade burst as the left click and the toon will occasionally use a reaping strike or necrotic edge when all of those are on cooldown (left click skill with cooldown will use default swings in the meantime, which can proc WPS).

they aren’t important at all, though. if i were strapped for skillpoints, i could probably refund the points from those skills and it would have very little impact on the overall performance.

wps are overrated. they are important in a DW build, but for a 2h build, they are really just fluff. i used them because they are new and have cool animations, mostly.

Thank you very much for the responses guys! Also that Cold/Vitality build looks pretty cool and also has given me some ideas on how to approach this.

Another +1 to Reaper from me.

I’m playing a slightly squishier version with Cold/Vitality + a whole tonne of Life steal.

This is a theoretical ultimate build granted I can find all the ideal gear, but currently I’ve got a Chilled Alkamos’ Scythe of Alacrity and a bunch of other high cold/vitality/life steal buff gear.

But the general concept of the build is a 1-2-3 of total annihilation.
Shadow strike onto target>Amarasta’s Blade Burst for AOE freeze potential and massive temporary damage buff>Bone Harvest for disgustingly massive damage and ANOTHER temporary damage buff that, if anything is still standing, will usually allow you to mop up the rest.

One thing I will note is the Spirit value is not necessary, I was messing around to see how this affected DPS, which is somewhat significant but I think the base health of this build is too low to not main Physique. Changing from 1000 Spirit to 700 and pumping it into Phys drops DPS by about 2000.

But this build is probably one of the most powerful in the game and with the right gear (if you can get the Iceskorn Talons there is the potential for multiple consecutive Bone Harvests) you will find yourself destroying pretty much everything with the magic hat-trick.

The sweetest thing is when ghoulish hunger procs and you insta heal due to the over 100% life steal and you forget you’re squishy cos nothing can actually hurt you faster than you can hurt them and heal yourself.

not bad, i think the normal Deathbound Amethyst is better because the proc:

Oh wow, I would agree, that’s much more appealing.

yeah, I was just so hyped to play a scythe wielding toon that’s reliant on auto attacks. with class name, Reaper to boot… Guess I’ll just try this on a Death Knight. Might work better with Cadence and all.
