Hello anyone who may be reading, watching, and overall seeing this. Please be kind. This is my first build/guide in this game. I have many, many embarrassing years in many other games from the early days of MMOs to D4 to FPS to DOTAs. And in a few of those I have written guides and such. And here is my first entry into this community.
I first played Grim Dawn in the beginning. It was fun. A lot of fun. but in '17 I left it behind for other games. Well a couple months ago I came back to it and decided to pick up where I left off and catch up. Well… somehow absolutely none of the characters I had previously survived. So that was several 100s of hours lost. So it was time to start over. With very little memory of what was what from previously playing I decided to do a melee necro because Aether damage. And so soldier became the other half of the equation.
This was my first character upon my return. This character has been rebuilt more times than I can probably remember. First it was 2H Aether. Then DW Aether. Then it was a Vitality 2H build (with free pets!). Then DW vitality (with free pets!). But it was never what I wanted it to be. So I came back home to Aether and rebuilt it. First was the MI 2h Lucius’ Blade Arm. Then I tried Screaming Veil and liked it more. Then I found a surprising (to me, maybe not the community) weapon that worked better than them both… Leviathan.
It has worked so well. More damage. More health. More physical resistance. But obviously it only worked because of my amulet. And that is the must have item and key to this build. That very annoying to craft amulet Conduit of Warring Whispers.
I am still working on improving the character. Because that is the point. It can cruise SR. It can take down Dread. What’s next I don’t know. But it is definitely fun.
And obviously Aether Death Knight is not new nor is Krieg’s. There are several builds out there that are good (cause I have used variants of them). This is just my version of what a Death Knight should be. This one is me. Enjoy.
Tips, hints, thoughts are definitely welcome. Just please remember I am technically a new player with only a couple months on the return.
TL:DR
Aether Damage using Leviathan works because of Conduit of Warring Whispers. It does a complete transfer of the damage Physical to Aether for our main attack Cadence. Which allows us to pick the best weapon from within the field of Physical Damage or Aether damage. And that happens to be Leviathan.
