2H Warder Questions

First post on here, I’m new to Grim Dawn and ARPG’s in general but I’m having a blast!

So The Mistborn Talisman recipe dropped for my lvl 25 2H Warder today and it has got me thinking about which way I should be taking my character.

I’ve been using Savagery mostly so far and it’s been great for single target but can get annoying for AOE especially when Feral Hunger doesn’t Proc.

I tried Primal strike and it was great for AOE but I really missed the sustain of Feral Hunger and I don’t believe it was proccing with Primal Strike. Windcallers Decapitator dropped for me and I’ll probably be using this as soon as I level up, this weapon gives +2 to Primal Strike but I’m not sure if that makes it worth using?

I obviously haven’t tried Troll Rage but I’ve heard it’s not quite as good as Savagery despite it giving you a lot of skill points to play with.

I’m also having a lot of trouble dodging boss attacks as a melee character compared to my Sorcerer.

TLDR: How can I improve AOE as a Savagery build? How can I improve sustain with Primal Strike? Is Troll Rage worth it? How do I dodge boss attacks as melee?

Oh and here’s my build if anyone has any advice on that too! http://grimcalc.com/build/Xyqmv7

Might wanna try and pick Bull in the Devotion Tree, Bullrush deals great AoE-dmg and procs all the time …should work splendidly with savagery.

Ah I didn’t realise that, thanks that will be a great help.

Also as I’m starting to understand the game better, I realise I should be focusing on certian types of damage. For me I guess it would be physical and Lightning damage? Should I go for Devotions like Tempest and Tsunami that boost lightning?

You are correct that feral hunger will not proc off of primal strike. Savagery is considered a default attack, so that does work.

Shaman has great sustain options. Take a look at Devouring Swarm. Note that the final modifier for primal strike does a lot of bleed damage. You can get more sustain from Wendigo totem (and aoe). I’d also put a point in Mogdrogen’s Pact, then start putting points in Heart of the Wild, which will give you a big health boost. If you wanted to go more along a caster route, storm totem is excellent.

For devotions, it will take a while to wrap your head around. The devotion system is great for filling gaps in your build, especially for health and resistances. There are some great defensive procs to get more sustain and some good offensive ones to lower resists, add aoe, etc.

As Misguided stated, devotion makes up for the weaknesses of both. I prefer primal strike as the AOE wrecks trash more than AOE from devotions…and there are great sustain constellation options to make up for the loss of feral hunger. Both options are viable though. Primal strike is more visually pleasing to me!
