A case for adding Pyromancer support to the Nex & Ortus set

Following the change to the N&O set in 1.0.7.0, I realized that despite the set being designed for a Saboteur, the Pyromancer could benefit from the use of this weapon set. I posted a guide for the Iskandra’s Elemental Pyromancer (http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80444) and while it works, it just doesn’t have the weapon damage and nukes that the Saboteur has (SS + Execution). Not all builds are meant to be equal or work the same, but we should try to identify lacking class combos and see how to improve upon them, right?

Despite the nerfs this set received in 1.0.7.1, the weapons still work perfectly with a Fire/Cold Pyromancer due to the presence of Acid Damage on BoD and the Chaos Damage on SWB/Possession.

The inherent problem in going with Pyromancer is the lack of nukes and WPS, so it’s tough to apply a decent amount of WD to targets. Using 2xSeal of the Void and a Direwolf medal helps a little bit in this situation as I showed in my guide, but it still pales in comparison to the damage that a Nightblade brings.

I am proposing a few changes to this set to give the Pyromancer a little boost to its damage that is necessary, in my opinion. The changes I am suggesting are as follows:

  1. Add +3 to Possession to Nex (https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/9468)
  2. Add +3 to Blood of Dreeg to Ortus (https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/9469)
  3. Add +1 to all skills in Occultist to the set bonus
  4. Add 25% Physical Damage converted to Cold Damage to Possession on Nex
  5. Add 25% Physical Damage converted to Fire Damage to Possession to Ortus
  6. Change +3 to Explosive Strike to +3 to Brimstone on Ortus (not as important, but should help as well)

The skill bonuses should be fairly obvious here; to boost overall damage from both Saboteur + Pyromancer, give a slight OA increase and some more healing potential as well. The Physical Damage conversion is to provide better WD conversion to Fire/Cold for the Pyromancer due to the lack of nukes in Occultist/Demo. With this conversion, the Pyromancer could reach 50% Fire/50% Cold conversion of Physical Damage using this set when combined with a combo of Enchanted Flint/Coldstone or something like Iskandra’s Prism skill.

I’ve racked my brain to figure out what other ways I would change this set to work better with a Pyromancer and these are the options that I thought were most appropriate to implement. I don’t think these changes alter the sets purpose and won’t provide an exorbitant amount of damage.

Hopefully this kind of change can be implemented to help lesser played combinations. What do you all think? Any other suggestions or changes you would make?

I think you’d need a lot more than that to make it work, unfortunately.

For example, I theorycrafted/tested this - https://www.grimtools.com/calc/62aK7YEZ and it was bad.

And I don’t mean ‘Michael Jackson’ kinda bad.

Just B-A-D bad.

I think the problem you had with that build is you’re not using the most important mod on Blazeheart: 100% Physical Damage converted to Fire Damage to Fire Strike. Using a Fire Dagger causes you to lose a huge portion of WD. I made this Firemancer build following a theorycraft post from hammyhamster1: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/Q2zOgeLV. I don’t have that Kilrian’s Mace, but something that has huge Physical Damage will greatly benefit here, particularly adding 20% WD to FS. My build has about 160k tooltip DPS and hits like a truck, but needs some more ADCtH or some other sustain.

Plus, I’m talking about dual element Pyromancer using a set that is perfect for it. Blazeheart is great and works decently for Fire Pyromancers. My Elemental Pyromancer has about 95k tooltip DPS following the Elemental Balance and N&O nerfs, big difference!

I’m going to PM you because I don’t want to derail your post.
