A Fan‘s Hope for Grim Dawn’s Future

Eight months ago, I came across Zantai‘s reply on Reddit regarding Grim Dawn 2, where he mentioned that while there are currently no development plans, the engine intended for Grim Dawn 2 is already in the works. I am not a native English speaker, so my English might sound a bit unusual. However, I truly adore this game. You must understand that Grim Dawn is already ten years old, and whether it‘s the content, UV , or the engine, there is a noticeable gap compared to modern games. You can imagine how much I have aged since I first played Grim Dawn—back when I still held immense curiosity and passion for the world around me. I really don’t want to reach an age where I lose interest in video games altogether, yet still carry that lingering sense of regret. The new DLC was announced in 2023, initially slated for release in 2024. And now it‘s already 2026. I’m not complaining about broken promises—I genuinely hope Crate Entertainment can thrive and accelerate their development progress. I don’t know how much of the new engine has been completed, or when Grim Dawn 2 will finally be finished.

Welcome to the forum. :slightly_smiling_face:

The new expansion planned to release in the first half of this year all being well.

Crate said on their Facebook GD page a little while ago that pre-production work on GD2 will start some time this year, but it’ll be several more years before we hear anything about it.

The new game engine will be used first for the RTS game Crate have under development.

In 2009, they acquired the license for the Titan Quest engine. In 2013, Grim Dawn released its Alpha version, followed by the official launch in 2016. Yet now, the new engine is still not completed. At this rate, I estimate it might be 2030 before we even catch a glimpse of any news. :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob:

Well, I don’t know when they decided to go for a new generation of their game engine and started work on it, but I think it’s nearly done.

And yes, I expect it will be 2030 or later. I just hope I live long enough to be able to play it. I ain’t getting any younger (73 now).
