A message to the community

From yerkyerk…"These kind of events are a great opportunity to grow as a community, it’s a step in the right direction and I do believe if we’re too get a decent-sized community with little conflict, this is the way to go.

We’re the older members, we should try to be as welcoming to new members as possible. Annoyances can’t always be prevented"

Wow…I just turned 46 last month and have played computer games for 31 years now…I have to say this is one of the best communities I have ever seen. Just feel a need to thank the Mods for their usually thankless and tireless hard work they put in to keep it that way!

THANKS MODS!

Grim Dawn InGame Persona: “Gorgonaught”

Been letting my careful watch of these forums slip the last couple of months or so. Tonight is my feverish attempt to catch up on everything! wipes brow While doing so, this is one thread I just had to post in.

Many thanks to all the mods here, and to the many amazingly calm, sane*, pleasant members. I have faith that no matter how large this community grows there will always be enough long-term member willing to step up and help keep everything running smoothly.

  • Due to differences in opinion on the word “sane”, this shall be struck from the record!

Oh, damn, I’m out.

Sorry, I had to, it just called for it. =D

…oh well, Monday.

EDIT: Heh, it’s Tuesday actually, is not it? Hmmm…what a day…

And all the member of the cult of crate. I’m not saying we’re insane, we just don’t conform to the collective view of sanity.

It might have something to do with the blood orgies, human sacrifice and beliefe in the divinity of the Lords of Crate… but that’s just a matter of opinion. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m confused. What happened (if someone doesn’t mind telling me)? I only semi casually check the forums for the dev updates and alpha news.

How about not in this thread though.

the community is doing well, but yeah I think its also possible that things might get out of control if we let them, the POE forums were great before the open beta, but many agree that the forums and the community noise dived afterwards,

it would be a shame if that happens here, and yes the spam bots are always active here messing things up, and its not always easy to detect if its a bot, I also think those that ask for help to run say a KS, (a couple of examples come to mind) but if those people had introduced themselves first, then people like myself wouldn’t have automatically assumed they were a spam bot,

I generally don’t click on links I don’'t trust or click on links in posts of people I don’t know, I know there is a resticrtion to the amount of external links you can do until you posted, but I think the post limit should be increased, maybe more frustrating for new people to add links to sites, but I also think only those that have posted a bit and known should really post links

as for necromancing threads, I am in general against the idea, and will help to deal with spam and such what by reporting the said threads, it helps that there is a report button

but also maybe once the number of visitors do increase, maybe more moderators should be recruited? just on the safe side, as things might get pretty busy later, and probably a bit more then the current mods can handle? but we will have to see how things pan out, hopefully the communuty will remain friendly and nice, and this is a great community, I joined a few forums over the years and a few do degrade into chaos or nastiness after a while, so fingers crossed that the GD community will remain friendly, or steps taken to keep it so, even if it means a few bannings or more mods recruited,

but anyway, I do like the GD forums and will remain active here for some time to come

so great work everyone so far, but its been pretty easy so far, the REAL challenge is coming, and only time will tell how it pans out

The typical spambots, which frequent these forums, adopted the minimum post rule. If the link limit was raised, they would just start to post more dummy posts to meet the requirement. This would create only more noise.

Whoops, bad wording on my part. It’s all based on my sense of sane… which doesn’t exactly conform to the collective view of sanity either.

This shall be struck from the record! Because that’s the easiest thing to do on the internet, right? Just remove something, and it’s like it was never there! :stuck_out_tongue:

I went to register to see what type of captcha there is

it was a random question, and not really a good one, What does A in ARPG stands for?

the problem with these types of questions, they can be googled and found easy, so spambots will have no trouble cracking this question

the type of question which would be better would be something like

I went hunting with my bow and fifteen arrows, when I came home, I had three arrows still in my quiver, how many arrows did I fire?

that type of question can’t be googled, also I used words for numbers rather then 4, 5 etc, this make the question harder to pickup by a spambot,

there needs to be fairly complex questions that can not be easy googled for, simple questions that can be googled for will not stop spambots in their tracks,
I suggest that the questions are changed, if you want to reduce the amount of spambots hitting this place, and like I said make them good questions, not easy to be googled for

I not checked what type of catcha this place has, as spambots have broken every visual catcha going, and this applies to other forum types too,

then again, after doing a bit of googling, even matchs questions can be bad, it might be an idea to try something like

what is the seventh word in the following sentence

I can’t wait for the Grim Dawn alpha to start

or maybe have a question like

complete the following word

Key_oa_d

questions like that probably would be a lot better, the only problem with such questions are, they are high maintenance, so they need to be changed fairly regularly, its the high cost of running a forunm if tyoub want to combat spambots, there is no other real solution to this

I’ve never understood the hate that thread necro-ing gets on 90% of interent forums. Assuming the post is relevant to the rest of the thread, isn’t it better to have all the dialogue on a subject consolidated into one place?

It is fun to bitch and moan about stuff though, that I understand.

Necroing can be bad because it can distract people from new relevant information to out dated information that could have been changed.

Otherwise, those older threads already are answered or the matter is settled and having someone post in it doesn’t usually add anything new to the thread.

It would be like someone asking a question two years ago and someone answering it right now when it’s already been answered. Doesn’t make sense.

If anything old threads should probably be read only or used as a reference for those who don’t search the forums for their answer.

The only way I could see necroing as fine is if the content the person writes isn’t repeated in the thread and can spark more conversation because it’s new (or create a new thread with the old thread linked as a reference). Otherwise someone who just says “I think this is cool” in a super old thread…? Not always appreciated.

One of the forums I go to has this feature where the admins shoved all the old threads along with the subforum(s) in an archive to be read-only. I wonder if vBulletin can do it as well?

I was eagerly awaiting the opportunity to play this game.I appreciate the hard work.Thank you!

I hope we will not see the abuse of power that troubled the PoE forum because a few small minded ego freaks thought they had the right to use moderator privledges to settle personal quibbles, and promote their own agenda.

I know they did that when they switched from alpha to beta forums or something like that in darkfall, worked awesome.
All old threads went into “Archive”.

Confusing as a new player to see what is relevant since i use the “new posts” button always and dont always think about the date on original post.

Sounds like Charan.

I don’t in any way envy the job a mod for forums like this has to go through.

I appreciate all the effort, and will do my best to follow the rules, and good forum etiquette.

Thanks for posting this though.

I did miss most of the drama, as I don’t tend to read every single post (sorry all… ). Just don’t have the time.

Unless you get a kick out of this stuff you really have not missed anything worthwhile. There are certainly better things to do with your time, but reading people’s squabbles on the internet.

Hi guys my question is when comes beta or full game i still have my chars and gear or its start from new??
