Thanks for that Neil.

Jeez what a necro! /troll

Just because a thread is old and has not been touched in a long time, does not mean it is not current anymore.

After a thread reaches a certain age and no posts have been made in it for more than X number of days it should auto lock so it can’t be brought back to life again then the problem is solved on it’s own. No mods needed no way to be abused etc etc.

We occasionally close older threads during early access, but not in all forums. I expect that we will do it less frequently after release, mostly when an expansion will be released. Doing it manually does not require that much time and allows us to decide when we want it to happen without involving the devs.

I mean, It would be better to switch to the steam communety forums… the forum have enough features to moderate faster and simply. And you can save A LOT of money for servers…

We live in the year 2015 and no one needs an extra website. If I want news about my “product” then I use facebook, and not every single page.
For games it is Steam… News, Forum… A normal Player dont want do make many Profiles on extern Sites for this.

Make this Forum only for Moders and other like this…

(sorry my english is bad)

The Steam forums are terribly designed and a cesspool , so I hope they never switch.

I’m really not a fan of the year 2015 argument at all… Please show us the rulebook that says that all game devs and publishers have to pack up everything and lock themselves completely onto Steam?

Oh? Lost that handbook?

Mhmm.

Sorry but nearly every game dev has their own website. Nothing has changed. The year is 2015… And freedom of choice is still a thing.

Well I guess I’m not a normal person as I never use facebook (never even made an account) never use the Steam forums and if I want to discuss a game, I go to the game’s own website and talk about it there.

You old-timer you. :stuck_out_tongue:

I discuss GD basically everywhere EXCEPT Steam to be honest. Steam forums have become considerably vitriolic.

I probably ought to pay more attention to them, though, just for the sake of gleaming information. Either way, I wouldn’t want to see a forum migration to Steam’s systems either.

Besides these forums have existed before GD has become available on Steam. Well, even if it is possible to open a forum there without a product, Crate has been running its own shop here for years.

I much rather have a dedicated site than one for everything like Steam forums

If I want news about my “product” then I use facebooek, and not every single page.

I never use FB for anything, don’t have an account. When I am interested in something I go to the specialized page not a general bulletin board

For games it is Steam… News, Forum… A normal Player dont want do make many Profiles on extern Sites for this.

fine by me, if you can’t be bothered with that, then chances are you contribute nothing I should bother reading

You old-timer you. :p[/QUOTE]

Wait, does this make me an old timer too? I just don’t like giving away free money and my privacy to a company I don’t respect.

Anyways, I’m in the same pool as Jaknet, and I also think the Steam Forums are a cesspool. I’m sure they offer some value, but I don’t think it’d be a great loss if they were closed down.

To be fair GD’s Steam forum is certainly among the tamest on Steam. It gets about as much flak and runoff as we get here, give or take, and they keep it pretty clean thanks to applying the same pressure on me there as I receive here

They keep me fairly under control compared to when I was but a wee laddy(sorry but I’m pretty sure there’s some Irish mixed in with the German and Injun that populate the rest of my DNA) in the GD arena.

I sneak in a jab or two here and there but nothing like I used to get in.

Also when you lower the barrier to entry, without heavy moderation, some interesting things will start happening, like your 5 page essays in the “builds” section with all the details will be met by one line “hm I don’t like it” replies from the guy who bought game yesterday.

Current structure is more like “don’t want to bother looking around? use steam, don’t want to external sites but steam sucks? use reddit, want to write long posts? use here”

I see you post there occasionally, so I guess I’ll take your word on it

…Tsk-tsk.

This thread really needs a bump due to the massive increase in traffic that we have seen. I quote below the more relevant parts from the OP and just want to stress to all users of this site that the report button is the principal way you can get moderators to find problem threads/posts. There are just far too many posts per day to keep up with it all.

And my pet peeve is piracy, so feel free to report any post that mentions it in a positive light, I will just wipe those posts right off this site.

We are a community of people that bought the game. Pirates can go elsewhere, but are not welcome here.
