A Question About Conversion

Hello there!

I should probably know the answer to this question but I don’t. It is relating to transmutes changing damage type A to damage type B and +x% damage on skill modifiers.

Here is an example for you:

Lets take Ring of Steel. The base skill adds flat piercing damage and it’s modifier Circle of Slaughter increases piercing damage by a percentage. For ease, at level 16 Ring of Steel adds 617 flat pierce damage (according to grim tools) and Circle of Slaughter at level 12 increases pierce damage by 100%.

If we introduce it’s transmuter Ring of Frost, which changes 100% pierce damage to cold damage, will this also change the +100% pierce damage from Circle of Slaughter to +100% cold damage?

Similarly, if we look at Cadence’s Discord, would this change the +x% physical damage on Fighting Form and Deadly Momentum to +x% elemental damage?

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question.

This should answer all your questions regarding conversion

Thank you very much for the link ya_.

It was quite a lot to go through but it did answer the question.

For people’s ease I’ll post it here explaining everything so it is kept to one page on the forums.

This is the order of things (thanks to LivaN):

  1. Base Skill
  2. Skill Modifiers from Skills in the Skill Tree and Equipment
  3. Conversion from Transmuters and Skill Modifiers on Gear
  4. Conversion on Equipment and Buffs
  5. Non skill modifiers - Equipment, Auras and Passives.

Here is an example for you:

16/16 Ring of Steel with 12/12 Circle of Slaughter plus the transmuter Ring of Frost. We have a Mythical Crimson Spike, Demonslayer’s Jacket and aConduit of Night Whispers equipped (giving +100 Piercing Damage).

Lets go through the steps:

  1. [li]Base Skill[/li]Ring of Steel - 617 Piercing Damage and 195% Weapon Damage

    [li]Apply Skill Modifiers[/li]Circle of Slaughter - +100% Piercing Damage & 624 - 867 Bleeding Damage
Conduit of Night Whispers - +100 Flat Piercing Damage
Mythical Crimson Spike - +120 Flat Vitality Damage.
    Total: - 717 Piercing Damage, 120 Vitality Damage, 624 - 867 Bleeding Damage, +100% Piercing Damage, 195% Weapon Damage

[li]Apply Conversion from Transmuters and Skill Modifiers on Gear[/li]Ring of Frost - 100% Piercing Damage converted to Cold Damage.
Mythical Crimson Spike - 100% Piercing Damage converted to Vitality Damage
    - This will adjust to a 50/50 split
    Total: - 358.5 Cold Damage, 478.5 Vitality Damage, 624 - 867 Bleeding Damage, +50% Cold Damage, +50% Vitality Damage, 195% Weapon Damage

[li]Apply Conversion on Equipment and Buffs[/li]Demonslayer’s Jacket - 15% Piercing Damage converted to Vitality Damage.
In this case we have already converted all Piercing Damage in the previous step so the Demonslayer’s Jacket will not convert anything. Therefore the Total will be the same.
    Total: - 358.5 Cold Damage, 478.5 Vitality Damage, 624 - 867 Bleeding Damage, +50% Cold Damage, +50% Vitality Damage, 195% Weapon Damage

[li]Apply Bonuses From Non skill modifiers [/li]This includes all the other bonuses from your equipment, devotions, passives and auras.
    Demonslayer’s Jacket - +62% Vitality Damage, +52% Bleeding Damage
Mythical Crimson Spike - +123% Vitality Damage, +123% Bleeding Damage
Total: - 358.5 Cold Damage, +50% Cold Damage, 478.5 Vitality Damage, +235% Vitality Damage, 624 - 867 Bleeding Damage, +175% Bleeding Damage, 195% Weapon Damage

As a final note, any flat damage you gain will be added to the x% weapon damage on the skill and then that will go through steps above. So, if you had the Nightblade passive Duel Blades the flat Piercing Damage it gives you would go through the steps above and be split between Cold and Vitality Damage in this example. The +x% Piercing Damage it gives you would be added at the final step as it does not modify Ring of Steel directly. Therefore in this example, the +x% Piercing Damage from Duel Blades would do nothing as all the Piercing Damage has already been converted to Cold and Vitality.

I hope this is a thorough explanation of what is happening.

nice work

you should pm one of the mods and make it a guide

yeah very nice done! I have not checked the actual numbers, but I do like the colors!

IIRC there already exists a ‘guide’ on conversion, written by halcyon
