Can someone tell me why an expansion costs more than the base game? In pretty much 99% of all games(this is now the 1%, as it’s literally the first time I’ve ever come across it), the expansions cost LESS than the base game. Does this expansion literally double the size of the game?
Just kinda curious, and moderately frustrated, a buddy of mine recently started playing, and I wanted to play with him, but he has Ashes, and I don’t, and I can’t say I really want to spend $5 more than the base game itself on a mere expansion(unless of course the expansion more than doubles the size of the game, which I sincerely doubt).
Please no flames, as you can tell I’ve not spewed any vitriol or anything towards GD and it’s Dev’s, I’m just curious, that’s all.
I assume you’re looking at the Steam sale prices, in which case…Ashes is newer, so it gets less of a discount. That’s probably pretty much it, really. If you look at the base prices, vanilla GD is still more expensive (at least in the UK, but I assume its the same where you are).
It doesn’t double the size of the game, but it does make it about 50% or so bigger. It’s a pretty large expansion.
The expansion is pretty much worth whatever you are willing to pay for it.
Just like AAA titles are “worth” 60+ bucks because people are willing to pay that much.
It´s on sale atm, so this is the perfect time to grab it and go have fun with your friend. I really don´t quite understand why a game that is less than 5 years old should be sold at a discount at all times. :undecided:
Pretty sure that you´re not an idiot. Just saying.
Oh, I wasn’t saying anything about whether or not it should be on a discount or anything. Just didn’t understand the price difference, but now I do entirely, can’t believe I missed that simple fact.
I might wait till the winter sale, just to see if it goes down a little more. As silly as it may seem, money is EXTREMELY tight right now for me and my family, I was thinking the expansion might only be like $5, which I could swing(albeit barely), but $13.95 is quite likely out of my price range at the moment. Had a catastrophic event happen recently in my life, hence why even $13.95 is probably to much for me. I don’t think we will be dug out of the hole we’re in for a year or so at this rate, which sucks.
Anyways…lol, sorry for the little mini-exposition there.
Thanks for the help/explanation all! This thread can officially be considered solved ^^.
