I thought it would be cool for a small skill tree for each of the combined classes that can maybe be unlocked once you max out a mastery
That could offer more variety and specialization.
Think of it like what POE has in the current new expansion for the Scion
for an overview
Or one extra small skill tree for all the combined classes, to allow for something similar
So you can push your build to more ranged, melee, defense, add more pets etc, without being pidgeon holed by your initial 2 classes
And even select from different damage types, or nodes that allow you to convert one damage type to another
It’s a neat idea, but at the same time, dual-class exclusive skills will actually reduce build diversity rather than increase it. For example, let’s just imagine that a Conjurer gains access to a specialty pet skill. Because of this, players will want to choose a Conjurer every time they make a pet build (although I admit that conjurer is by far the most common pet class already). Making certain skills exclusive to dual-classes will give players less incentive to try to make niche builds work, and in my opinion, niche builds are the most enjoyable part of grim dawn.
Well if your a soldier, blademaster etc, your never going to have permanent pet, apart from items, but with the extra shared skill tree you could have a pet and have some more pet angled things - for example
Well I also suggested maybe a small skill tree that is shared by all classes, once a mastery is maxed.
Similar to what the Scion does in POE, with the new expansion
The developers have stated that they’d like to focus on improvements that all players can enjoy. Devotions are a good example for this; any class combo can use any devotion.
With the current 6 masteries, there are C(6,2) = 15 different class combos. That means a skill tree for a particular combo would only impact 1 out of 15 possible combos.
Suppose there will be two more masteries in the future. There would be C(8,2) = 28 class combos. That would make any given class combo-exclusive skill tree even more irrelevant, relatively speaking.
Now suppose there would be at least 3 skill trees with at least 2 modifiers per tree for a total of at least 9 skills per class combo. With 8 masteries and 28 class combos that’s 28*9 = 252 skills to develop, test, and balance. That’s a ton of work even for an expansion.
why would you add a pet to the combination of Soldier and Nightblade ? That is one of the things they can use the least, might as well add a fire and chaos skill… makes a lot more sense for Occultist + Shaman
If you were to add anything, it should be something that the combination is good at, not something that is diametrically opposed to it…
Don’t really see any need for this, what’s more, that will get rather difficult / much work given the many possible combinations we have now that will just keep increasing with new masteries.
