A small suggestion for skill and cursor usage

I usually avoid playing ranged fighters or casters because it’s very difficult to aim with your cursor exactly on an enemy. There are a lot of enemies that are slim or even small and they’re constantly moving fast, so you always end up walking to them (or even circling around them with a melee attacker), which kills the idea of having a ranged attacker. To hold shift while attacking is also cumbersome when you’re also responsible to tap keys that are associated with various skills, at the same time. There are also some skills (like Bloody Pox) that require you to target your enemy perfectly and, if you didn’t do it right the first time, it won’t try again when you move your mouse while keeping it pressed. This happens because you usually try to have your attacks set to the left click, to make room for a debuff spell on the right click. So, here are a few suggestions for what I think would make the game easier to play for all types of characters (ranged and melee):

  1. Allow most attacking skills to be set to the left click. There are many skills that can only be set to the right click (such as Eye of Reckoning), which doesn’t allow you to set a debuff skill to your mouse clicks as well.
  2. Create a gameplay option that allows a character to start attacking even if the cursor is not exactly on top of an enemy. You could make this by setting a small targeting radius around the cursor (that can be increased by the player to some extent, from the gameplay options), so that it selects the closest enemy that falls inside that targeting area. This would improve the aiming process for both melee and ranged characters. So, the current targeting system (which doesn’t require repeated clicks) is great, but a small selection area around the cursor would be an improvement, to allow you a margin for error.
  3. At Diablo 2 there was the option of shuffling quickly through multiple skills assigned to a particular mouse button, by pressing keys like F1, F2 etc. I’m not sure if this would be mandatory here, since you have a large skill bar where you can fit all your skills, but I found the method from Diablo 2 to be very easy to use for any skill. Here, whenever I need to use a skill that needs targeting and is set to the skill bar (instead of the mouse), I get confused when trying to synchronize my key presses with aiming the cursor (without clicking it to use the skill). In my opinion, it would be better to use some keys to also swap the active skill that’s set to a mouse click and then aiming and clicking with the mouse to use it. But also keep the numeric keys (1, 2, 3…) for the skill bar, where you can place your buff/debuff skills that don’t require targeting.

There is this which might work for 3.

Yes, but I dislike using 3rd party tools and having skills that are automatically cast can be annoying or even harmful. For example, casting War Cry automatically, when the moment isn’t right, doesn’t sound like a good thing. And War Cry is a skill that works well on the skill bar, because it doesn’t require aiming. But Devouring Swarm or Curse of Frailty work better when assigned to the mouse, that’s why it would be better to be able to swap the active skill that’s set to a mouse button. If an idea is good and can be (easily) implemented, I see no reason why it shouldn’t be in the official game. But it’s up to the devs to decide what is a good idea or not. People like me can only make suggestions.
