Ability to limit foreground FPS

I’m playing Grim Dawn on a laptop and without the ability to limit my FPS the computer gets way too hot even with an external fan, adding this would make me able to actually play the game

Seconded! _______

Bump, I still can’t play the game :expressionless:

Have you tried enabling v-sync?

AMD drivers (and I’m 99.9% sure nvidia as well) have the options to limit fps or you can use rivatuner statistics server to do the same. I can’t speak to the quality of the built in driver options as I’ve used neither, but rtss is fantastic. Whatever method they use to limit frame often results in lower frametimes compared to in game options. RTSS vs Witcher 3’s in game frame limiter for example is much superior!

Yes, it didn’t help. I need to get down to about 20 FPS.

Not looking to download 3rd party programs and setting the FPS through drivers didn’t work for me.

V-sync limits your framerate to at least 60 fps. Some people with low end computers could need it limited to 30 or below.

Since B28 a lot of people got heat issues so limiting the framerate is one of the partial solutions so you can still play while not burning your computer too much.

What’s wrong with a widely used/trusted 3rd party program?

I’d suggest reinstalling your drivers or googling the problem /a fix for your drivers, it’s a pretty major feature so no reason it shouldn’t work. Not sure about nvidia, but iirc (and I may be wrong here) with AMD the limiter only works in fullscreen mode and being on a slow laptop you should be running that anyway  As a random idea off the top of my head you could try applying the limiter globally and/or a GD specific limit.

I do appreciate that you are trying to help me with this issue, but I can’t see how this would be so hard to implement seeing as they already have a background FPS limiter…

This isn’t going to happen, is it?

Still hopeful!

“Adaptive V-sync half refresh rate” option, if you have Nvidia. I don’t know about AMD.

I’m using it on PC with 144Hz monitor, so it locks GD fps to 72. I find constant 72fps feels much smoother than fluctuating 70-100fps.
