About conversion and transmuters

Ok, so I have this vitality based opressor and hes using righteous fury with it’s transmuter (100% physical, fire damage converted to acid, vitality, respectivelly). I noticed that whenever I use a weapon with base physical damage, it gets all converted to acid. The thing is: what’s the order of conversion? If I have n% physical damage to vitality on my weapon + Harbinger of Souls (15% phys to vit), what happens first? It seems to me that any physical damage dealt through Righteous Fury is being converted to acid, which basically would render phys to vit conversion useless on an auto attacking character like mine.

I know there’s a section on that in the Game Guide but it’s not very clear (that or I’m just dumb)

direct skill modifiers and transmutators come 1st in the conversion order I believe

The answer is yes any physical damage passing through transmuted RF will be acid damage. That type of conversion happens before any conversation from items or skill.

Skill modifiers from items and skill transmutors happen first, followed by single element conversion, followed by elemental conversion.

Let’s say you use the item have gives 100% piercing damage converted to cold to phantasmal blades. And you decide to use the transmutor in the skill tree frentic throw for lowered cooldown and 100% piercing damage converted to vitality. And you have 25% piercing converted to acid on your chest piece. The piercing damage would be split 50/50 cold and vitality. The piercing to acid wouldn’t have anything left to convert, as it was already all converted before gear conversion took place.

There are two exceptions to this rule to my knowledge. Those are the skill transmutors for storm totem and empryion guardians. This is because they summon a totally separate model. So if you took corrupted storm totems, then had vitality damage converted to chaos on your gear, your totems would do chaos damage

That’s what I got by reading the game guide but I assumed to be wrong because it seemed stupid, but now that I think about it’s actually pretty clever, because I can use the transmuter along with a weapon with base fire damage to get lots of flat vitality OR not use it at all and just stack phys to vit.

Well played, Crate. Well played. You got me.
