Add an option to block others players from inspecting you and remove the option to make rooms with passwords

Like the title say, simple and straight forward.

I’ll start with peoples inspecting you.

I found very rude during those last days that a lot of players just come in your room, inspect you, and if you have a build based off rare MI’s with good prefixs and suffixs, they insta ask you if you ‘‘Cheated’’ your gear. In all honesty it is very annoying and it happened more then once lately to me. They join my session, come near me just to inspect me and then they do that. I find it highly unrespectful, since almost everyone of them assume you didn’t play the game while i have a wholesome 3000 hours on GD. It would help a lot into avoiding those kind of problems, also because if they really have this obsession about others players gear in multiplayer, they can play in single player, And No, don’t tell me that the problem could be fixed with me playing single player, cause i’m not the obsessed one about assuming things about others players, i don’t even inspect peoples online and also, if i open a public room, it means i want to play with others, while those kind of peoples just come there and if they see anything for which you require time to farm, they just instantly doubt you, which is BAD. If they are obsessed to that point, the option to play single player is always there instead of bothering peoples in theyr own rooms online(or in others peoples rooms as well).

Now about password rooms.

Grim Dawn doesn’t have many players, or better said, the peoples making lobbies without passwords are very low and not always you find a room focused about something you might be interested to join for. Meanwhile the ammount of rooms with passwords are really high and i don’t see any reason for that. First of all because it hit badly peoples who does look for peoples to play with and secondarily because GD does have a local adhoc option, meaning that if peoples really want to organize a private room, they can through many programs like hamachi or similar. At least make it so that public rooms can be joined by everyone since it’s not even a matter of peoples making rooms with passwords because they have a full team…the majority of those rooms have 1 or 2 players at best in them with very few of them having like 3 players. Never once saw a password room with 4 players in them.

I know those kind of suggestions usually are taken badly from peoples, so i do not expect much but those things really are annoying to see in a game that does offer the possibility to play multiplayer. Peoples often refer to GD as a single player based game, but i do not agree, not even a bit to that. The possibility to join others players, have more loot dropping, searching for loot together, IS THERE, and this just kills the purpose of it being there. Finding gears that each others looking for would be much much easier since you can trade to your companion of adventures and looting something he/she looking for and makes the game way less stressful when it comes to find that legendary or that MI that isn’t dropping for days eventually.

I don’t multiplay so not that up on how it works, but I do know it’s peer to peer so I doubt Crate can do anything to make lobbies without passwords standard.

And yes, GD is mainly a single player game; the devs themselves have said that multiplayer is a very small part of the player base. Iirc it’s less than 10% of the player base. The game was designed around being single player and is balanced around that.

The fact that GD player base is mainly single player is directly related to the problem of passwords rooms being for the majority single players rooms, so no, again i do not agree when it is said that the game is balanced toward single player just because the majority of players choose to play alone. At that point why even adding multiplayer? Why the multiplayer increases enemies stats/increases enemies density when there are more players? If it would been balanced and thought around single players those things would not even need to be there honestly, even others options such as instanced loot have been made thinking about the multiplayer, so yeah, the multiplayer is there and the game as been built in a way to accomodate it, but among the 2 issues, i’m more bothered about the first one tbh, especially when the game is fully moddable and such. The developers themselves gave players the liberty of doing things, like i said, i dont even inspect others peoples online and i dont demand them unless they are immortal or one shot stuff in SR at very high shards. This is the case where i say that instead of being obsessed about others peoples gear, they might as well play alone. There’s litherally 0 points in coming into another player room and making a fuss about things.

if people want to not play publicly but still play MP that is totally their right, and suggesting they shouldn’t be allowed private games with friends etc is… :man_facepalming: .
As for the balance, players complained and continue complaint MP is too easy hence why it gets a basic scaling, and you even see mods increase that scaling much more. So yes while the game is focused on SP, since devs still recognized some people like to co-op etc they gave that option, and then also added the most basic of tweaks to it so it would be slightly not 100x easier/more boring than SP mode.

As for inspection, personally don’t care, don’t see why it’s an issue/anyone should care. You’ll find cheaters in any game, and you’ll find dumb people in any game that don’t know stuff, why should you care about these people.
If they are dumb enough to accuse you of cheating when you weren’t, couldn’t there likely pop other elements up during team play that would shine similar/other aspects of that personality out of them? - why would you want to play with these folks
To an actual use, since the game is about loot, i’d imagine there are players or friends that would like to show their build/items off in coop.
And as i mentioned before with players obv having the right to play private you can also say players have the right to not play with cheaters, so if someone can inspect someone and determine that, like items having impossible zillion stats, then inspection serve as that slight manual anti cheat device, also if innocent people will be accused here and there.

Sure but at the same time what i said still stand. If you are obsessed by that you can play single player instead of coming into others peoples rooms and making a fuss about it or…make your own room since the kick players option is there…

About the peoples having the right to make privates rooms, again…majority of the passwords rooms are like 1 player rooms, at this point pick single player instead of making a room cause i see 0 points in doing that as well…

I know that feeling, happens all too often. People just looking at you as if they are wearing x-ray goggles.
It makes me feel naked, and vulnerable.

no?
it’s easier to get a game going in a small population by joining an already going on than creating another 1 player game.
Likewise when playing MP people have every right to not want to play with cheaters, just like they do for any other game outside GD. And since there are cheaters with modified items, easy to spot, that is a method to atleast slightly immediately know if your game is clean. And is one of the few methods players has to their disposal.

which means you don’t get it
these players don’t hurt you or other games/lobbies, and they have the right to play in their private lobby to not have to deal with constant kicks or random lag spikes from people trying to enter or fail, if they are just purely wanting to play with friends, even if that friend isn’t on yet.

Yeah that disturbs me. Diablo games does offer the option to block peoples from inspecting you after all and there were cheaters on Diablo as well(or at least having played diablo 3, there was that option, no idea about D4 or D2R).

Yes?

They can make theyr own room since the kick players option is there again? They can play single player? You claim having the right to do it is fine, while i really think it isnt at all when there’s obsession about it to the point of jumping in another player room and making a fuss about it. Make your own room if you are obsessed up to that point.

No? Make a single player room instead of a useless 1 player password room and then play with your friend at a later moment? The game offers ‘‘local’’ multiplayer as well, that can be played ‘‘online’’ with your so called friend at any later moment. I see 0 reasons having public rooms at disposition if you have to make a password room and play alone, single player option is there again.

no
is 300% unnecessary hassle people should not have to deal with when they already know they don’t wanna play open games but purely with friends, and you are objectively wrong on this

is there a language barrier here? not trying to be offensive but it seems like you’re missing an extremely basic point
these people that use inspect as semi anti cheat want to play MP, they just dont’ want to play with cheaters, which is objectively their right, (and playing SP obviously wouldn’t help that).
And while you might not think they should join others games, it’s literally for the same reason you’re trying to restrict other players using password, because the MP base is small so it’s better to first try join active games than keep making new ones to get a MP going.
No it doesn’t excuse them being rude, but since GD has 0 anti cheat and never well, and there will always be cheaters i think it’s fair for people to both be cautious(wanting to inspect) and do so while actively looking for active games, instead of ending up hosting 50 new 1player lobbies

you are somehow failing to grasp multiple basic concepts, some even directly to what you complaint about, and at the same time want to inflict/enforce your own negative MP experience upon others that from the onset already know they only want MP in a specific way, and password lobby is the only way to achieve that for them. And i think it’s kinda mildly insulting the amount of tunnel vision going on there in that regard with no respect or courtesy extended for your fellow players.

Sure dude, whatever you say. You contradicted yourself at least 2 times in this last reply btw.

People like inspecting others, it’s a gear-focused game after all. But for those who don’t like randoms looking at their gear, there’s a special option you can turn on to prevent this. It’s making a game with a password.

The player count for a passworded game hardly matters? If you just have 1 friend, it’ll be max at 2 players.
Also, GD remembers your last setting, doesn’t it?
So if you made a passworded online game to play with a buddy, the next time you start it up, even if you plan to play solo, it’ll still go for online with Password, and people might not realize or care. Orrr… people simply only want to play with people they invite. You never know when Zantai comes online to play a bit, so better have a room up and running, just in case.

Having an option to make passworded games is nice, and shouldn’t be removed, as you never know what asshat is joining in planning to ruin your game.
If you dont want to make passworded games, that’s a risk you’ll have to take with whoever joins, no different here than any other online experience.

Sounds like someone wants to cheat a build and crash other people’s games xD

Seems like someone doesn’t understand i was in my own room with rare MI’s and someone asked me if i ‘‘cheated’’ gears assuming i didn’t farmed…it wasn’t about gamebreaking things, it was about the time that you need to spend to get those…so yeah, it was completely pointless.

If i wanted to crash others peoples games i wouldnt be making my own room and i make it without password for a reason and if i wanted to crash others peoples room i would be cheating in a gear to do so. Expecting peoples not to be rude is expecting much nowadays it seems, to further extend this answer, your assumption was 100% rude and unrelated to the topic.

Sure, remove password.

-my friend and I want to play.
-I create the room, but my friend is finishing dinner so I decide to already make the long travel to a roguelike dungeon door to wait there.
-a random player joins.
-I don’t want that random player so I have to kick it.
-I waste my time.
-That player wasted time.

What does removing passwords accomplish?

A complete waste of time

Play alone meanwhile, make room when your friend come online, not hard to understand…

yet you majorly struggle to understand what people are telling you and pointing out

You doing the same, i assure you. Not to mention you contradicted yourself 2 times while at this but sure…

“ I decide to already make the long travel to a roguelike dungeon door to wait there.”

Not hard to understand.
