Aether Barriers in Valbury

So I went into the Port Valbury area and there are a couple areas with aether barriers. One in old town and again right at the end before the final boss. I can’t get through them so I’m kind of stuck. I’ve explored the map (I think) in it’s entirety and tried googling for an answer but can’t find one. Is this blocked until a certain level (I’m only 50 and doing normal difficulty). Do I need to find some sort of “key” or something?

If it is impossible to kill the final boss, it’d be nice to know that before using a skeleton key to get in and spending an hour clearing the whole thing only to be blocked at the last.

No, there are no blockages that would prevent you from killing the final boss at that level.

Do you have screenshots of the blockages? You can find the maps here

Sorry don’t have a screen shot. They’re literally called aether barriers. They’re glowing greenish (aether) crystals. There is one right at the bottom of the steps that separate High Town from Throne of Van Aldritch. They’re indestructible and as far as I can tell impassible.

I haven’t killed the Loghorrean yet on this toon, I hit Fort Ikon then realised I’d missed a couple areas near Homestead and thought I’d head back and clear them first. So I wondered if there is a quest that triggers the removal of the barriers, or whether you get an item that does it, or if it depends on rep or something…

edit: Ok since I’m still in the instance (was just about to zone out when I saw your reply) I’ve run back to take screenies. Here is the first one in old town http://half-assed.net/images/AetherBarrier01.jpg

edit: Here is the barrier before Van Aldritch’s area. http://half-assed.net/images/AetherBarrier02.jpg

These are barriers right in front of boss rooms. Just click on them and they are gone (If you’re alt-tabbing a lot you might have to press the alt key shortly before clicking)
Their only purpose is to indicate a boss room and “trapping” you in there with the boss.

OMG! I can’t believe I didn’t realise that. I tried attacking them but not just clicking. I feel like an idiot now.

Thanks so much.

Another rogue dungeon that can be entered later in the story is rather infamous for having way too many of those crystal doors.

At least you know now how to open them.

haha so true. I’ll never forget again.
