I’m realitive new on this game. I’m already on endgame with a Sentinel build that I look on Youtube and now I’m tryin to do a one by miself. Also I noticed that hybrid builds like these are pretty hard to pull off on lastes difficulty levels so I need a lil’ help with that, specially with devotion points
Thanks in advance
GRIM TOOLS BUILD
Welcome to Grim Dawn. The reason that hybrid builds are so hard to do well is that when you make the player & the pets equally powerful the build overall is much weaker than it would be if either aspect were focused on.
This is by design and it will never change unless the game is re-written and there is next to no chance that is going to happen.
Also I guess the reason that no-one has replied till now is that the allocation of skill points is not an ideal way to start making a build. It’s by far faster & easier to start with gear than skills. Gear alone can dictate the direction a build goes and skills alone very rarely do. There is a set that will actually make the build that you describe work but in a different way than the one you’ve thought of thus far.
The Clairvoyant’s Focus
This is an Aether Ray based build that has supplemental pets. Please note that the pets themselves are not the focus and the damage the spell cast does to the target upon impact is where more damage comes from.
Best of luck on your journeys and adventures in Cairn!
Not sure if this qualifies as “hybrid”, but at least it’s Reap Spirits + AAR (probably as developers intended):
Spellbinder, 1.2 - three heals + Phoenix
in game i bound skills/devos like this:
Dryad’s Blessing to Reap Spirit (you get heal all the time)
Aether Corruptioin to Arcane Bomb (Aether Corruptions ticks a lot and it’s a good proccer)
Will of Rattosh to AAR - heavy damage (partly converted) + -% vit res / -% life leech res
Phoenix Fire to Ill Omen.
Build managed Ravager of Minds (kiting in second phase), SR 75-76 is a breeze, SR 90-91 is manageable without deaths, slow but sturdy.
My off-hand has pierce res in-game so pierce res is capped.
I am looking now for a Fleshwarped Tome (with % pierce res on it) to try more aggressive approach and to convert all Vitality damage to Aether (Will of Rattosh) + partial Lightning to Aether will boost AAR damage as well.
Like it was mentioned earlier items are what define builds for the most part in Grim Dawn. Some skills from classes look like they could complement each other very well but due to the lack of specific items that bolster that skill combination the idea may not perform very well.
That being said there are some item sets that try to bring the pets, the Arcanist, and the Necromancer together. The Diviner’s comes quite close though it focuses more so on Devestation than on Aether ray. You could still put a point in Aether ray and use it as a complimentary attack.
Grimtools has a superb feature that lets you search the web for saved build links that have been posted across the web. It’s a simple way to see how other people have forged their builds.
Here are some builds that I found:
Crypt Stalker Diviner
Ascendant Diviner
Rattosh Claivoyant
Korvaak Claivoyant
No-set No-pet Green Build
Half-Diviner Green Build
Many of these builds can be outdated and in need of tweaking. Overall I have found that most builds posted are far from optimal so there is always room for improvement when devising your own build or build variant. This is the guide that helped me grasp the fundamentals of creating solid builds. Other than that the only surefire way to test your build is to do it in-game. You can use GrimStash to quickly edit in the characters and items you need.
I think you could perhaps come up with a unique build out of your idea. Maybe the Blight Fiend could be a tool to bolster your offense by decreasing enemy defensive ability and taunting them, allowing you stay still longer. You could also just try focusing on the skeletons and maybe the ray could deal a small amount of damage with one point in it (after all you wouldn’t want to just stand there doing nothing, right?)
Thanks for the answer. I still early on the game and with my other characters I only use the best gear that was dropped.
I think I will focus on that build you linked
