I almost never play CT builds (aside from Vanquisher for burns), so this attempt is relatively new to me.

The purpose of this post is to show that this set would need a few changes to make it more competitive.

  1. CT+VF is not enough, you need Devastation(or something). No matter how much you try to main CT with all flat damage sources from skills and using Maw of Despair. I don’t mind this, however I feel it is more a Devastation/proc build with CT clearing trash or low HP heroes.
  2. CT Mods. The -1 sec CD to CT suggests building a transmuted burn. I don’t know when this was introduced but with Vanquisher existing in the game there is no point in bending over backwards to make an aether/ burn build.
  3. Set Wisps. It seems that the RR from wisps is highly unreliable. They hit single target and sometimes it seems to not even connect, making you rely on additional sources flat RR, from gear or devotions. Make it AoE or chain lightning projectile with 3 target hit maybe.
  4. Set stats. Chaos to Aether conversion seems mandatory on Off-hand. Albrecht Duality being the only source hurts the build could also use some HP/CC res like entrap somewhere. The green ring, especially the gloves are a bit silly. There isn’t a pair of gloves that seems very good for this build aside from Soul’s Touch which is not very good.

With the set feeling a bit left behind, what I enjoyed the most was the survivability, available to any sorc using Aeon, and spamming devastation, none of which have anything to do with the set. Maybe VF with Ulzuin’s wrath, that part seems nice as long as there is a a ranged mob around.

As I have limited experience with CT builds and aether builds in general I welcome any additional ideas to help this guy out. I think that no matter what devotion path you use or gear variation, you won’t reach very different conclusions about this set needing an update.

Would totally have to agree with flat regarding this set. Its been some time since i personally tried making a sorc or a defiler (we already know binder is doing ok, however it was never pushed to its limits) and always ended up being frustrated.

From what i noticed compared to other builds and sets, this one, if built balanced, always ends up with barely there OA and DA, HP is on the lower end, same for phys res, resistances are very tight and CC res are nowhere to be found, this is related to the defensive aspects.

Related to the offensive aspects, as already mentioned, binders are probably doing just fine, but i do recall that in order to have good damage output i had to sacrifice lots of defenses, mainly from ring slots and take 2x duality rings to convert the damage on Fabric of reality, so yeah, chaos to aether on offhand should happen. I also tried to make use of Siphon souls but just wanted to mention that it does nothing, so maybe a buff regarding its AoE or cdr, and damage is welcomed.
If we look at the worst build you can make, we ofc are looking at defiler. Agrivix defiler is probably the most renegated build in the game (defilers usually are because they always performed poorly). Only way to really help defiler is to do something about siphon (already mentioned) and to Vindictive Flame. Before going into it i wanna point out that defiler usually ends up with 2.4-2.5% aether damage under the best circumstances and with severe problems in OA/DA department, HP also barely being there (just move 2pc bonus resistances to the set pieces and give it aether, fire, burn damage%, buff resistances, oa, da on pieces and add cc res). Going back to Vindictive Flame, the biggest issue is that Ulzuin’s Wrath does nothing vs melee mobs, so there goes away your sustain vs melees and your damage reduction too. At the same time we have the fancy VF mod on the set offhand, but we cannot build the fire version of agrivix because of the conversions on the full set bonuses. Phys to aether and Fire to aether conversions have to go on some other item, outside the set, this way we can at least have a shot at trying fire version too with Empyrion helm (consider adding aether to fire conversion to this helm). Instead replacing that conversion mod for VF with adtch mod to it and a vit to fire mod to Siphon and some more cdr to it might be something new that opens up more possibilities. You’ll be able to play both fire and aether agrivix this way in the end, with no more conflict.
And the cherry on the cake… the wisps do not help in crowded environments, neither do they help agrivix defiler (he has no single target damage no matter what you do). Their damage really needs to go up, they need aoe to apply rr to several targets and either bigger flat rr or bigger uptime for the flat rr.

Another possible way to fix its single target damage and sustain (and probably iskandra’s too) is to buff the damage on seru pets and give them leech, similar to unknown soldier, but also give leech to the wisps too.

Here’s a video as an example of how defiler performs after some (i forgot how many trial and errors over last years) attempts:

This is also one of the few armor sets that don’t have a blueprint. And there’s no reason why it shouldn’t have one.

If a lot of your damage comes from VF and Spear of the Heavens, then you actually want to get hit and therefore need to minimise fumble and dodge. The dodge from Aeon and Eel can’t be helped but you can at least get rid of Searing Light.

Also, for the rings, maybe consider Band of the Eternal Haunt instead of the Gollus ring, or perhaps go Magelord set.

Yeah for an aether caster Sorc, it seems the only reliable melee-range damage reduction source is Demon Fire with at least one Albrecht ring to make some use out of the chaos damage. A less reliable alternative would be Magelord rings.

You loose a lot of damage with magelord and the set already doesn’t have % aether damage, demo mastery neither. Also, read the part where i mentioned the build struggles with OA, so proccing magelord proc will be very occasional.

Going for demon fire isnt possible, simply because there arent enough skill points to include it without making significant sacrifices which will make things worse.

Best case i could see is replace all VF bonuses from the set with BWC ones, making the set CT+BWC (aether/burn) oriented.
