B12
Level 16
Just reached Burrwitch Village due to several game crashes.
I’ve only had 1 green drop and got 1 from a quest reward. I may have has 1 blue drop, but if I did I sold it because it was a pistol. I just can’t remember if it was on my new B12 character or a B11 character. lol
b12

3 blue 7 green…
warden 17 times and new area guys chest inc in runs
Hey all, rather recent loyalist here. On my first (B12) playthrough as a Level 18 (at the time of my Warden kill) Witchblade, I had 2 blues (Madness + that Soldier/Demolitionist skill amulet), and IIRC 5 greens drop.
yer ive had 1 runthrough with around 5 green drops and 3 blues level 19 warden kill
Recently completed my first play through with 3 blues and 5 greens dropping in total.
Since then, I’ve done 2 warden runs (heading straight to the warden and only stopping for hero’s and when surrounded) and a small portion of DS (While getting my a## handed to me haha) and have had 3 more blues and 10 more greens drop… go figure!
I did a single run last night to warden and got two green and two blues (good ones too… Shoulder and head gear)
Was lvl 17-18
that’s often like that in my experience. my toons usually get 1-2 blues in their “regular” first play through, then they find more farming high level bosses and areas.
i found 31 blues now, as i reach 100 hours in game. it’s a fine drop rate to me but maybe it’s a little too dependant on farming (hard to say with only one act, as a low drop rate must be expected in early game).
^ I don’t think its too dependant on farming, though you definitely see a higher level of rare/epic items drop when playing through certain levels over others.
One of things however I like a lot about this game is that you can find high quality stuff from something as inconspicuous as a jug or barrel… I’ve found numerous green items from crates, barrels and other non-chest breakable items around Cairn.
Its great to get a nice drop from a fallen hero or boss, but its also a nice surprise and unexpected to get a green falling out of something you wouldn’t normally expect.
I think the item drops still fluctuate too much, at least that’s my impression. I did Warden runs the last three days and the first day I finished with about 5 or 6 blue drops. But yesterday and today I didn’t find a single blue in what were about 9 or 10 Warden runs total. Maybe I was just lucky the first day and unlucky the last two, but it feels kinda off to me.
I remember reading years ago that in Titan Quest the general drop rate was rolled when you started up the game, so you could have session with a lot of blues/purples and sessions without any. I however don’t know if this is true at all or just made-up.
Maybe a dev could confirm whether this is true or false and if true, if this is used in Grim Dawn as well?
For me in my experience with B12 at about 20 hours played so far in B12 alone, the blue and green drop rate has been significantly reduced. I’m not sure what is specifically causing this, it could be a combination of a number of things. I think that the reduced kill speed, reduced damage and increased damage taken can contribute to this feeling.
One thing I noticed, however, is that I have not had an enemy equip any blue items in B12. Killing thousands of Zombie Soldiers would provide lots of the three blue shields and a varied amount of one-handed blue weapons, but I have not had a single drop from them since B12. In B11 and earlier I could get several blues from the Soldiers alone during a play session, but that has not happened at all…
I believe there are some item seeds generated by the game when you start it. This was a huge issue and was eventually discovered and patched out with the RNG fix in TQDefiler.NET for the loot creation via chests, bone piles, etc. TQ does create a seed when you start the game and the items generated during that game are dependent upon this initial game seed. One seed will give you poor item drops, another will give you great item drops. It did create a varied play-through of the game.
I’m not sure if this is present in GD, but I have tried it when doing shopping runs (i.e. start a game, check both vendors, buy what you want, exit to menu, then do it over). You may notice when doing this for extended periods of time (maybe it’s observational bias, but I’m not sure!) that you can get double green affixes and rare affixes in the shops. If I saw good greens generated, I would keep using that “seed”. If not, and only a bunch of yellows, I would quit the game and restart to change the seed.
This would produce some really awesome greens when you notice they start having rare affixes or are both green prefix and green suffix. The problem with that is for some reason, my game would have often crash when I got a great “seed” and would not under other circumstances.
It was odd to say the least…
There has never been, nor will there ever be, some mystery RNG seed that determines all of your luck for a playthrough.

You are dealing with small sample sizes, which skews perception to indicate that a particular playthrough was “lucky” or “unlucky”.
If an RNG seed existed, mine is consistently whatever the lowest value is, also I get it in every game I play.
While we are at it, how do monster drop rates compare to chests unique-wise? I noticed that chests usually drop a whole lot of money and maybe a few yellows, but I’m almost certain I’ve never gotten a blue from them.
Now I understand that this is primarly a game about killing mobs but chests don’t have that rewarding feel to them for me, like they had in TQ.
I agree as far as blues are concerned… I have not had one drop from a chest or breakable item (barrel, crate, etc) however I have had yellows and some greens.
Perhaps once the full game is released and purple items become available, blue items may become more commonplace to drop? Who knows…
This is pretty much my ecperence with the game…
I really love the items that have an attached skill…man is that a great idea!!!
There are blues in this game? lol
blues drop rates have been reduced a bit, but I have still found a few blues and using some blues in my chars, so yes there are blues,
Not sure what happened or if I’m just really unlucky, but lately I’ve seen a huge reduction to green/blue drops… I have leveled up a new Commando to lvl17/18 and in that entire time have found a couple greens and a blue.
Also found that yellow Drops overall were lesser… really weird as earlier chars I found had much more stuff drop. … who knows
Edit: well I gotta say now with b13 the rates seem to have been boosted… Probably due to more heros, but also from random places (had a green drop from a crate and a blue drop from one of the cultists)
Seems like more yellows are dropping too… Either that or i’m just on a lucky streak
I have 220 hours gameplay and i got 64 blues.)))
I just got the Alpha yesterday and killed Warden today at level 18, total play time is 10 hours and I have found zero Green items and only one Blue item ( A very underwhelming pair of gloves). So in B13 it looks like the rates are still extremely low, either that or I’m just extremely unlucky. :undecided:
