Am I Underleveled?

Hello everyone!

I am enjoying my first play through of the game but things are starting to get a little difficult for me. I am playing on veteran and haven’t had much problems until now… I am level 34 but all the mobs in my questing areas are all around level 39. I am able to still beat them and clear through packs but is it suppose to be like this? Should I back track and farm off mobs for a little while? I am trying to do ALL quests as well, side missions aswell.

Enemies auto scale to your level to a limit. So no, you are not underleveled.

Only area i think that it only starts auto scaling to your level after a certain level in Normal/Veteran is East Marsh. Mobs there start at around 35 and scale from there. Meaning you can go there around level 20 or so and the mobs will be 35 and up.

What area specifically are you playing in that doesn’t scale below 39? You’re almost certainly in an optional challenge zone.

If you are building your character at least somewhat effectively, in most cases the mobs being several levels over you is nothing to sweat. Some bosses or hero packs may give you trouble but otherwise there is no cause for concern.

And yes, optional challenge areas will tend to be the ones to display this more if you have been rushing content.

If you are building your character well, over level enemies aren’t that hard in GD. Especially on Vet/Normal.

I was… It was one of those Skeleton Key locked doors.

At your level… Steps of Torment. Did you clear it?

I don’t bother with the 4th and 5th levels of SoT until near the end of the game (on Vet/Normal) since you can get a quest that tasks you with going there, plus you tend to be more capable to handle it at that juncture.

the steps of torment skeleton key area can be extremely challenging if you attempt it as soon as you encounter it at lv35 or so. Even though enemies scale to you, your guy is going to just be better off when you’re 45.

There is a quest item in both skeleton key areas, but you can only get it if the quest is active. You can beat the main boss and then do that after, before going to elite

I am also on my first play through, but on normal. When I got my first skeleton key, by Gate of Anguish, I was level 45 or so, and all the enemies were about level 50. I also felt kinda under-leveled. One of the bosses killed me, so I’m taking the advice of those that say wait until end of the game. :stuck_out_tongue:

I got pretty far into it before dying, thanks for all the info though.

I was using this build:

Hope its still viable, lol…

So for more effective communication in the future, you might want to consider the difference between “I am level 34 but all the mobs in my questing areas are all around level 39” and “I am level 34 but all the mobs in this locked dungeon area are all around level 39” =)

My thinking is that skeleton keys are a somewhat costly resource, and that optimal play if you’re trying to maximize return of that resource is to stash them to use on ultimate difficulty after you hit at least 75.
