Another "Any Point" Question - Item Sets

I love item sets, but even in GD there seems to be no point to them: if your character is lucky they might find two parts of a set; but seldom ever will a character find a full set. Plus, as an example, you can then find yourself stuck with a lousy armour class on a coat / jacket / cuirass that you do not want to drop because it allows you to use two guns and you naively persist with it in the belief that one day you might actually find something to replace it that will give you a much superior armour class whilst retaining your dual-wielding Gunslinger ability.

Another peeve: why are there no hand crossbows or throwing knives in the game? - One of the medallions for Gunslingers grants the character a special attack when dual-wielding guns or missile weapons …even though, to the best of my knowledge, there are no missile weapons that can be dual-wielded (outside of hand-guns).

…and what of the Manticore Eye required for the second Gunslinger medallion - ? - I can neither find one, or a blueprint for one. - I even dismantled one of those magic user eyeball items thinking it might produce one, but, no, it did not.

So you are still in normal if i am not mistaken?

  • dont worry, you will find other means than gunsingers jacket which enable dual wielding pistols. If you have aom, inquisitor has a skill that gives you that ability. I agree that completing a set with one char is all but impossible (if you arent extremely lucky) but the more chars you play the more complete will your item collection be for the next char
  • no, only pistols. As for two handed crossbows/guns, they are basically the same, so pistols are like hand crossbows gameülay wise
  • in rare cases, you can get manticore eyes by dismantling, but with items found in normal the chance probably is pretty low. Dont want to post spoilers, so i’ll pnly state the you will know without doubt when you encounter enemies that are able to drop manticore eyes

Manticore Eye is dropped from Manticores. There is a plenty of them in various parts of the world, especially - where Mogara boss is (side/bounty quest to kill her). Also you can trade some relic for that eye in Barrowholm (bounty quest). Eye dont drop often, but they are used only in very small number of recipes, so usually, they just lie in stash as “dead weight”.

As for sets - indeed, it’s hard to complete full set, even so - mythical set. But far from impossible, alas. I got many complete sets before AoM, and i bet, i will complete many of new sets as well, over time. For example, i already have 3 pieces of Octavius set, and only 1 left (shield) to complete it.

If you’re really looking to complete a certain set, pop into a trade thread and list the cool things you have for trade. I filled out the Shepherd of Lost Souls set in a couple days because of the trade thread, for example.

If you don’t have high level options for dual wield pistols, you are probably best off to put that character aside. There are quite a number of options for dual wielding pistols, several come in the form of relics, with good weapon proc skills attached to them.

But if you don’t have those special items to make dual wielding ranged weapons possible, you should play the Inquisitor class instead.

As far as gear drops go, you will just have to play the game a while, and you might eventually finish a set or 2, but not with 1 play through.

Thanks. - It looks as though I just need to be a bit more patient with things. - I have already encountered manticores (absolutely love the mesh and textures), and will see what I can do with multiple characters where the sets are concerned (or check out those trade lists). Currently I am playing a Defiler and, yes, I normally play at Normal difficulty level, too, and keep forgetting that absolutely everyone (except me) seems to be effortlessly playing at Ultimate (or above) :D.

 I wish! Only recently got my first character into Ultimate and I’ve been playing since the alpha release back in 2013! All my other toons are still in Normal, though my Mage Hunter is closing in on the end of Act 6 Normal so will hopefully be in Elite soon. My fault since I’m always trying out new build ideas.

There are throwing knives in the game - Nightblade has a dedicated skill tree line that grants this skill, but it doesn’t use actual knives that you find/buy. As for hand crossbows, devs just don’t think they fit plus iirc it would be quite difficult to animate so the game doesn’t have them.

The new Inquisitor class is specially designed for dual wielding ranged weapons in the same way that Nightblade is deisgned for dual wield melee.

Most people who play the game never play Ultimate, according to Crate. It’s not easy. It just seems everyone and their dog can easily run through it, because it’s the more hardcore players who post here.

Ultimate is not all that easy, and especially frustrating that in order to get geared up for it, you have to make a lot of sacrifices to your DPS. At least when your gear options are limited. AoM just stepped that up a notch, so people who got used to handling Ultimate with the old content, are struggling when going into AoM on Ultimate.

Of course there are players who have farmed a lot of gear, or even use editors to give themselves gear, are doing just fine, but don’t be fooled into believing that is typical.

Steam shows the exact figures under the global achievements, so it’s easy to check and only 3.8% ever finish ultimate and only 9% ever complete elite to be able to even start ultimate.

Edit…Only 24.4% even complete the first run through

All good and, again, thanks. - I can now be a n00b at the game and know that having my character pwned by a Scavenger is nothing to be ashamed about…

If I remember well a similar thread, only 50% of the players defeated Krieg. When you think about it it’s crazy to imagine 500 000 persons bought the game and did not play it.

Apparently that is actually fairly common in many games. I’d guess part of it is low price steam sales (potentislly also humble bundles if crate has done one of those?) I know i sometimes find a game in my list that has been there sense last winter/summer sale (5 dollar pickup usually) and 6+mobths later is still untouched…

Same here. I’d say half my Steam library is stuff I picked up for $5 on the summer sale and just never got around to playing.

If you are complaining about this, might as well complain about every other ARPG created. The RNG mechanics are the same… You should be thankful that GD’s droprate is naturally generous. You won’t get the same results with other ARPGs without modifying the drop rate/player count.

The only difference is that the amounts of sets and legendaries in GD is extensive. The drop rate for Legendaries/Mythicals might be higher but due to the higher probability range, you’d obviously get less chance to hit the specific item you are gunning for. 3 Simple Old as Time Solutions:

  1. You Farm
  2. You Trade
  3. You Cheese or Cheat

It’s really as simple as that.

^ ditto… It’s actually not that easy. I only play HC exclusively, but I’m also not fond of losing them needlessly. The prep time needed to get them Ultimate ready is grindy, especially if you are not playing low-maintenance OP build paths. Even with BiS gear, Ultimate AoM can really still f@#% you up if you’re not using an efficient build path; and being efficient in GD means being half-tank half-amazing

Steep DA/OA, need for high over capped resistances and a good deal of phys res, will limit your variety options drastically changing the play-style you originally envisioned to play a certain char. Personally, this is probably what made people shy away from the game more than it’s difficulty. I felt this half way when playing GD pre-AoM, and my concept toons were dying left, right and center.

I guess part of it is low price steam sales

Frankly, the same could be said about every item: No matter how lucky we are, we’re unlikely to be bedecked in Legendaries immediately upon hitting level 50.

We might not even be able to get our equipment to match visually; i.e., some users would still look a mess after two playthroughs.

If it weren’t for the Illusionist.

It doesn’t change things a lot, but there’s a bit more player who killed the ending boss of the base game. Defender of Cairn only pop when you come back to Creed. So there’s that.

Then, we discussed it with some pals a few days ago about people finishing games and it’s a proven that, whatever the reasons, the gender, the age, the type of game, there’s roughly 30-40% of people finishing their games.

It’s not unimaginable, early levels are boring as fuck, more so if a person isn’t desperate for an ARPG (like I was) and just checking the game out.

that ratio is pretty constant across all games, nothing specific to GD

Hmm ok I was not aware of that. Sorry for being old school :stuck_out_tongue: still buying games to actually play them in 2017 wtf is wrong with me?
