Banished had some great modding communities to extend the life of the game. I realize FF is very early in its release but I just wanted to look under the covers to see if anything interesting was going on
There are several mods already in the Steam workshop.
There are lots of mods for aesthetic, QoL, utility, and balance (/cheating) changes. There’s nothing approaching a total conversion mod, although some (like raiders dropping loot) add a whole new mechanic. While the game is very open to modding (the entire source code being essentially public) major changes to content are hard. There’s an official guide to adding new buildings but, AFAIK, no one has published one. I spent a very long time trying to see how to add new goods to consume/trade/produce and decided it was unfeasible to do so.
I’ve published a mod, Forageable Transplantation, that gives all forageables and bushes the relocation functionality of the Blueberry Bush. I’m working on multiple mods. Foraging overhaul, a “game & fish” overhaul for hunters/fishermen. Also will do a comprehensive mod that folds all 3 into it. Just today I’ve recreated the planner tool (omg Claude is the man). I, ahem, “borrowed” the BetterBuildingIcons icons for it b/c they’re so pretty.

Also, if any devs see this, I’d like to get my hands on the custom Font used for the title art. (blue colored font with the compass over the “O”. I don’t think it’s used anywhere else in the game. I couldnt find it in the game files.

I expected there would be a lot of building aesthetic mods for this game, similar to Stardew Valley’s aesthetic mod scene. It’s surprising to me that there’s not much aesthetic stuff out there.
Yeah, I’m surprised too. The tools are there, and the game has a fairly large community that focuses on aesthetics and making a pretty town. I think 3d modelling is just hard and has a significant skill-entry barrier. A shame really. There is a mod that changes the building icons though IIRC.
A forageables transportation/relocation mod that actually works with the latest version? Yes please and I will love you forever!
