Whats the conditions? Is it just pure RNG? Does high hygiene (soap, compost yards) prevent bubonic plague to start?
You need rats (probably lots of rats) for people to start getting the plague. Ways to get rats include grain food in non-granaries, unsanitary conditions, and, well, not using rat catchers to suppress the rat population.
What I wonder is whether anyone has achieved this achievement and what is the purpose of this achievement? Is it to prove that the settlement has poor sanitation leading to disease outbreaks? Instead, it should be changed to more positive achievements such as: 10 consecutive years of cleanliness >99%
It’s just an achievement like the others. Okay it’s for the detriment of your town instead of enchancing it, but it makes a change too in how you build. I’m trying for it atm; have a lot of dead bodies to encourage rats, but did build a compost yard because the muck was making my villagers so unhappy that when they died no new ones came to replace them and I was getting a worker shortage. Will destroy the compost yard later in hopes it will help the plague arrive.
My achievements are still locked, what is required to unlock them?
Play the game without any mods and be on v1.0.0 at least.
Seems right - the rats are the key.
Lowering hygiene doesn’t “help”: I removed waste collectors, all soap/herbs/medicine, disabled medics - and the folks were dying to other diseases (Typhoid most common).
So if anyone is looking to do this “achievement”, breed them rats by:
- Disabling Rat Catchers
- Storing food outside of Root Cellars
- Making sure dead bodies lie around (so make graveyards inaccessible, eg. top of mountain)
Bubonic plague seems to have a high spread chance, so once some folk gets it, the spread is very fast.
Close your hospitals to ensure no one get medicare - more spread
