Yo guys,
I downloaded DPYes & GrimCAM, and I’m using a controller to play. It works great having the controller setup for WASD control (feature enabled by DPYes mod)…
My wish though, is that the camera panning would either hide the cursor, or ideally FIX it’s position while panning the camera. If it acted like that, then I wouldn’t need to reposition the cursor after panning around.
Does anyone know if such a mod exists?
Thank you!
don’t know of such a mod, unsure if it can be done as is
but like, what if you make it like it’s switching to controller/gamepad controls when panning, since gamepad has no cursor visible (in that moment or otherwise out of menus)
besides that, isn’t the issue/your issue technically that the cursor doesn’t actually move when panning? as it’s staying in the same place in terms of actual screen XY cords position, but the environment “map” position is the part that’s getting changed in relation to char etc
I’m not sure that would work but it’s worth a shot.
Most games that don’t feature mixed input (like grim dawn) will momentarily pause when switching the user interface from KMB to gamepad or vice versa.
It might be possible to modify the default gamepad configuration though. It uses Steam Input, so perhaps if I changed everything over in that config, I could do it.
I guess there is probably an keyboard hotkey that rotates the camera too, I could try that as well.
Thanks for the idea.
oh yes for sure there is, also for zoom in out besides rotate, and then a hotkey to bring it back to default too, i use all 5 constantly
"besides that, isn’t the issue/your issue technically that the cursor doesn’t actually move when panning? as it’s staying in the same place in terms of actual screen XY cords position, but the environment “map” position is the part that’s getting changed in relation to char etc"
No, I’ll try to explain it more clearly.
When I press Mouse button 3, the camera pans but while so doing, the cursor also moves. I want the cursor to stay put while panning, because if it did I could basically keep my cursor in the center of the screen, and just pan the camera to aim.
This is probably the best bet for now ~ Thanks.
I believe with GrimCAM mod, I can modify the panning speed too, so I’ll see if I can get that to feel right
Cheers and thanks
the cursor shouldnt’ be moving
you can check this having it next to one of the fixed UI elements, and it it should be in same XY screen cord position, but ofc the cursor relative to char and environment changes
*since i’m using the hotkeys to deal with cam i’m unsure if that’s related, but that’s always been my/the default experience this way atleast
You’re right that it doesn’t move when you use the keyboard hotkeys, but when you use M3 to pan the camera, it does move the cursor.
Unfortunately, the GrimCam mod seems to disable the use of keyboard camera controls. At least, for me pan left/right hotkeys don’t do anything with GrimCam enabled.
I haven’t figured out how to edit posts yet, but I meant to say this:
Part of the reason why I want to use M3 to pan the camera instead of using KB bindings is that with GrimCAM I can pan the camera up & down in pitch as well… So, that gives me thirdpersonshooter like camera… this is why it seems like locking the cursor while panning would be worthwhile
lol i forgot what m3 was/thought it was thumb button
mouse moving with m3 is ofc natural, since you need to use the cursor to instruct the direction eg left/right so cursor goes that direction it’s being dragged in (“you’re actively moving the cursor”)
i don’t remember the use of grim cam since i did it “once” ages ago with grim internals, but surely it must have some sort of config where its controls can then be set to hotkeys too?
Not sure, in the .ini file for the mod are these:
[Settings]
MinPitch = -89
MaxPitch = 89
FOV = 60
FarClip = 120
HSensitivity = 0.2
VSensitivity = 0.2
MinDistance = 20
MaxDistance = 38
DepthFogClamp = 0
Key = 0x04
EnableFog = 1
Perhaps I could edit in the keybinding for pan left & right, but I don’t think there are such keybindings for pan up & down in the base game. Ahha, I can now edit my posts
So, yeah, GrimCam allows you to pan up & down as well (with the mouse), thats the neat thing about it. It appears I’m at a roadblock
This works!
So, in the Steam Controller configuration tool, I just switch it over to AS JOYSTICK style temporarily when I want to pan the camera. The UI doesn’t switch over, and my character aim’s at the cursor…
So it’s perfect!
Thanks for your help
np, glad to hear it could actually work out
