So, if any of you played the game, can you give me some info about it?
How it compares with other Arpg’s and is it worth the time investment to learn rules or mechanisms and play it from start to finish?
I just finish my first Grim Dawn playthrough and i’m searching for a good Arpg to fill the space until Crate fix the crashes that came with the recent build. I already finish Diablo 2 once, great game but the potion mechanism is at least tiresome.
Titan quest i played it and finish it(and i will again), torchlight didn’t like it very much.
Those are the titles i have played for now. I’ve read some good things about Divine divinity but it would be good to hear your opinions too!
Divine Divinity is a great game, well worth playing through. It’s much more focused on story than balance and crunch though, so it’s pretty easy to find some really strong builds that makes combat a breeze.
Don’t bother with Beyond Divinity or Divinity II, they’re rubbish.
Well, it still has a nicely looking picture, some pretty cool music score, nice quests, usually with some decent humor along the line. It also has some imbalances in loot (like you get yourself a sword that freezes enemies, it will drain most challenge out of the game), and class skills. For example — mage have all kind of spells, and warriors have basically two types of attack: single target, and spinning AoE. Of course warriors can also learn some spells, but they will never be really good at them (heal helps, tho). Skills are somewhat imbalanced too.
Back then, when it was released it was a very cool game. I bought it on steam a few years ago, and second time was pretty nice too, I poured something like 20-30 hours into it, but never really finished my playthrough. I guess it’s up to you in the end, huh?
BTW: have you considered Path of Exile? It’s free, and I think it have a really nice story, and some pretty rich world setting, with deep atmosphere and great lore. Definitely worth to beat it once, I’d say. Skill system is pretty deep, too. Loot leaves something to be desired, especially if you not into trading, like me, but — for one playthrough — game’s great, imho. Cheers!
Path of Exile recommendation here on the sacred Grim Dawn forums?? BLASPHEMY!!! Kill it, kill it with FIRE!:furious: No i’m kidding of course but to tell you the truth i really don’t like the whole online trading aspect that came with POE. If it was a completely offline game i would definitely trying it, that’s for sure. The same for Diablo III.
Path of Exile has a great setting, amazing lore, great skill system, pretty much perfect combat and pacing (to be honest, Grim Dawn could learn something about fluidity, smoothness and speed of combat here), is free and is overall a great game, with only one major flaw.
That flaw is of course the forced online part and the effect it has on drops to encourage trading, but it is absolutely possible to play through the entire game and experience pretty much everything without any interaction with others. I have and had a great time doing so. Just don’t think you’ll ever find that one perfect build-enabling item you want, because you probably won’t.
Hahaha, yeah, it was a bold move on my part
But I really do feel like PoE deserves 1 playthrough, if you can adhere to always-online requirement, ofc.
Also I can suggest you to try some mods for TQ, actually. Lilith was an interesting experience, and Underlord breathed second life in the game for me. Soul Visier is balanced around multiple players, and some bosses could be hard to do solo, but it’s sure is a fun mod too!
Can I recommend Pillars of Eternity? It’s a fantastic RPG with a rich, rich story which is fully voiced and a bunch of build options. The combat is not my cup of tea but still on of my favourite games from 2015.
Divine Divinity was great; loved the music, the crafting and that almost everything is interactable. Had a lot of fun with tossing boxes and crates about trying to find hidden trapdoors.
Beyond Divinity, however was meh. Didn’t really get to try it with the patch though. Original Sin comes at a time I was too busy with front-loaded RPGs though. Pillars of Eternity, being a class-based system, I could just choose a class and get on with it. Original Sin was so freeform so I had AP at character creation and restarted several times because of it…after that I can’t bear to play through the beginning again.
divine divinity is a great game, its like elderscrolls mixed with diablo. Its such a good game and it has some of the best nostalgic game music in it by far. You will also get a bit of humor from playing the game I remember laughing my ass of at lanilor many times.
One of the fun things I enjoyed while playing divine divinty was saving my game before a boss and killing him over and over, making other saves when i got a good drop and then choosing which save i would like to continue playing with. Some times i would be on one boss for a while trying to get a drop I liked…and ofc with RNG sometimes it just doesnt happen.
Im sure the shops can be re rolled aswell, I have not played much of the expansion Beyond Divinity but from initial play through its not that good compared to divine divinity.
