I took a long break from GD because of RL reasons, but I did document my char projects including links to build guides in the forums. This was before the forum site was changed. Is there a way to convert the old links to the current forum? I don’t have thread titles or build names or names of authors.
Unfortunately no. Unless you know the title or author of a thread or some key words to help you search there’s no way to find it. That link will not lead you anywhere now except the home page for Crate’s forums.
Only other way is to look at your posting history yourself and see if you can find it that way.
It’s not terribly hard though it is a little time consuming to still find the new ones. Google has a cache ability that should last a bit longer. If you convert the above link and look at the cache version of it you can find the title (searching google will tell you how to do that). Then search the new forum for that exact title and you’d find the new link for it.
It’s pretty simple I believe, though I’m not that up on things. The old links could allow hackers to access the new forum which isn’t a good idea. So old forum has been removed from existence on the net now which is why the links no longer work.
Really simple actually. The new forums aren’t terribly difficult to understand at all. A little adjustment from past habits sure, but if it helps Crate (with the limited resources they already have) focus on the game end of things rather than having to worry about the forums and the over-reactions people have to anything being down for 10 seconds then I am all for whatever little inconveniences the new forums have presented. As I mentioned above, it might take a little extra time to find your old links but it’s hardly rocket science.
@ghoultek
You’re welcome. I will say though if you’ve been out of the game for a while but you’ve gotten all the DLCs you might also make sure to check the Build Compendium XI for Forgotten Realms as it will have more updated builds and such. Just a thought for the future.
@CaiusMartius:
Thanks again. I have been looking at the forgotten god’s build compendium. However, it will be easier to understand what I was aiming for with my chars before deciding on any adjustments/changes that fit the current expansion.
For example, I started a Vitality Cabalist in AoM, but I also had Vitality Totem Conjurer. I was able to locate what I believe were both of the build guides I was working from. I think I started the Cabalist because there was an updated guide for it in AoM and I wanted to try the Necromancer. I have a level 1 Apostate from AoM that I didn’t start yet, but I did save a link to an AoM build that I was interested in.
…and I’m already checking out your update to Nightmare’s Vitality Cabalist by Ceruleansong. Lot’s of reading and exploring to do.

Now if Crate would just do us all a massive solid by making an optimized 64-bit native Linux game port that runs on Arch Linux, Ubuntu, and their variants at the start and then work with other major distros. This would be a massive win for PC gamers. I’m looking forward to not having to log into Windows unless its for work reasons.
it’s like saying “i have lvl 1 gladiator crucible 150-170 sr 75 with full set and complete bis”. everyone can dream.
anyway, i’m also sad that the old forum links are dead now. but i can understand its for security reasons. hopefully people can start rebuilding the useful old links.
Not going to happen since Linux is such a small part of the player base atm.
"27th July stream:
JA_Sinclair :Can I dare to ask about a Linux-Version or is this kind of impossible with the current GD Engine?
Nothing’s impossible with an engine because you can just rewrite any part of it. It’s just a matter of how long it would take and is it financially viable and the unfortunate answer with Linux is it’s just not big enough to warrant the work required. If you look at the Steam user survey you’d find that Linux currently represents 0.5% of the Steam user base and Steam is literally our biggest share of sales by a massive margin. Like 95% of sales are Steam, so if only 0.5% of people on Steam are using Linux it’s kinda hard to justify the programming time necessary.
7th December stream:
frankstar : @CrateEntertainment when will we get a native Linux version. im waiting way to long for it
We cannot justify our resources for a Linux version, I’m sorry to say that. Linux is unfortunately just not enough of a market share to warrant expending programmer time on it. For the same reason we don’t have a Mac version and Macs might actually have a higher percentage of the market."
Use Valve’s Proton if you want to run the game on Linux.
