Are Caster/RDPS builds even viable anymore?

The problem in casters lies mostly in itemisation. If you lack BiS items your caster will suck, end of story.
Spirit is second cultip - curently its the most useless stat in the game. There is absolutely no reason to invest in spirit unless you want to wear some items.

Temporary immunity cooldown timers. It’s a solution that has been around longer than GD’s development and works amazingly well.

Just because it could possibly be fixed via allowing bosses to be CC’d, even if temporarily, doesn’t mean that should necessarily be the fix for it.

In fact, to suggest that this is such an easy fix compared to anything else is just plain ignorant because you’re overlooking the fact that maybe the developers don’t want bosses to be capable of being crowd controlled for a reason.

Sure it’s an easy fix, but easy doesn’t always equate to the one the developers should use.

“Just because it would work, is simple, and other successful people have done it with good results doesn’t mean Crate should follow their example!”

:V

“You’re ignorant of things the devs have never openly stated!”

“They could make their game better, but why should they?”

Are you hearing yourself right now?

Seriously, you’re not even arguing a salient counterpoint to what I’m suggesting. You’re literally just pulling “WHAT IF? WHAT IF? WHAT IF YOU’RE WRONG?” out of your ass.

Your assumption is that allowing bosses to be CC’d makes the game better in a way that the developers want.

There’s no need to be rude, and the primary reason I commented was because of how condescending you’re being toward people in this thread as though you know all the answers to how this game should be developed. My point was to suggest that you don’t and maybe you should try looking at it from more perspectives rather than writing off what other people suggest as merely inferior to your own opinion.

Twist my words as you please to make your point, but I was simply stating that just because a developer has an easy fix for an issue doesn’t mean that fix is right for every game. It’s not about not wanting to make the game better, it’s about wanting to make the game how they want it to be better and looking at all the options available rather than just the easy ones.

I take it you don’t have an end-game farming ranged build or caster build that you made on your own?

Also, rudeness is unwarranted here. If you don’t want to see this thread locked then stop acting like a dick to anyone who disagrees.

Also the fix might sound easy to you but it might be really hard to incorporate into the game. What you’re suggesting isn’t a small change and requires a lot of tweakings to make it functional.

Nicely put, w/o BiS casters do suffer. Same for gun builds.

Why the fuck would the devs not want the game to be better PERIOD?

Yeah, says the person who came in and called me ignorant. Go pound sand.

Show me where I “wrote off” other people’s opinion (other than yours, of course, because all you did was come in and awkwardly stammer about how I might be wrong without offering a single reasonable counterpoint.)

He says, while offering exactly zero good reasons WHY that would be.

>It’s not about wanting to make the game better

Holy shit are you HEARING YOURSELF.

>it’s about wanting to make the game how they want it to be better and looking at all the options available rather than just the easy ones.

SUGGEST SOME, ASSHOLE.

Dual pistols pyro, 2h ranged commando, Chaos ray warlock. Go ahead, question my “gameplay cred” some more.

He says, as the guy he defends KICKS OFF HIS DEBUT in the thread with rudeness towards me. Yeah, fuck you too, buddy.

We already have cooldown mechanics for skills, so that’s not an obstacle. How complicated could it POSSIBLY be to make a CC skill apply a temporary buff to an affected enemy that grants 5-10 seconds or whatever of CC immunity? We already have the ability to apply positive “buff” effects to enemies (look at Fevered Rage for an example) so THAT’S not the obstacle either.

Seriously, there’s no need for the rudeness. I’m not sure why you need to be that way but it’s absolutely unnecessary, especially if you intend to have a discussion about how the fix aspects of the game.

Your first two posts in this thread were condescending to the people you replied to, and since then anyone questioning your suggestions have been met with rudeness for whatever reason. If you can’t have a civil conversation with someone because they disagree with you then you shouldn’t be on this forum in my opinion.

I’ve made some rather simple points that I think anyone who makes suggestions to developers should be well aware of. Again though, my point is that just because an option exists doesn’t mean that option should be used. Not all games are alike, and not all options will work in the long run. What you’re suggesting equates to a band-aid fix, which is something good developers strive to avoid because it only creates further problems down the line.

It’s a really simple concept of game development that just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. Looking at all options instead of taking the easy fix is what make great developers great. Calling you ignorant wasn’t meant to be rude, but to inform you that you’re overlooking some obvious things that anyone with minor game development experience would know about. I myself am ignorant of most of the aspects of how this game is created, but knowing that pushes me to learn more so I can be more informed. So don’t take it as an insult but rather a suggestion.

Let’s analyze them.

THIS is condescending? How the hell is this condescending?

First half? Not seeing it. Second half? Maybe. It was a sarcastic reply to a willfully stupid comment.

Literally the only “point” you’ve made is to shoot down my ideas and wag your finger at me while clucking your tongue and insisting the devs ABSOLUTELY know better.

It’s a really simple concept of life that you shouldn’t let yourself be paralyzed with indecision over whether a choice is the BEST POSSIBLE CHOICE if you have a way to walk it back and try a different path anyway.

“obvious things”

Which you’re only going to vaguely allude to in platitudes about how “the easy fix isn’t always the right fix” and so on.

I’ll say one thing before leaving this thread.

Firstly for those builds you stated i have no idea how good they are, how many have BiS gear, you just said those names. Not saying they don’t exist, just saying i have no idea how well optimized they are. If they indeed were optimized you shouldn’t have problem farming end-game with them. And i mean efficient farming.

Secondly, it’s nice to get into a healthy discussion, heck after long discussions the parties involved might never agree with each other but no harm is done in such discussion. People are just stating their own opinions and critiquing other people’s opinions. This doesn’t really fit the description.

But then there are discussions like these where there’s that one guy who for no good reason is rude to everyone who disagrees with him. Doesn’t present any good arguments himself and simply shrugs off any seemingly valid points made by the opposition. These discussions are called arguments. And i really hate getting into them. This seems like one of them

So good day to you mate, just remember this- i said it before and i say it again tone down that rudeness of yours otherwise say goodbye to this thread.

P.S

I too believe this game punishes casters a lot, but adding temporary CC doesn’t seem very practical as this game isn’t just full of caster builds. It’d cause the LMB builds to become game breaking, to fix that they’d need to nerf those LMB DPS monstrosities and that’d cause more uproar. It’d be a balancing nightmare. This is just the surface of the problems when you dig deeper there might be more.

Conclusion? Try to see things from someone else’ perspective. It’d help you in life as well (hmm probably should refrain talking about real life while sitting in an internet forum )

None of them are “optimized” fully due to the RNG not giving me all the pieces of the sets and such I need. The dual pistols pyro is an absolute nightmare to farm with because no matter how I seem to slice it he has fuck-all for survivability (and even when I tinkered together a full BiS-gear Pyro with GDStash it was still an utter nightmare dealing with Nemeses, Sentinel, etc. so I don’t really have much hope for him). 2h Commando is doing alright, though I would never try to farm with him and can’t imagine taking on certain nemeses with him. He’s also far from full BiS, mainly because the full Ulzuin’s set is garbage and I really need Hellborne to drop but fat fucking chance says RNGesus. Chaos Ray Warlock is fun but so incredibly un-viable for any sort of farming without BiS gear that I simply don’t TRY.

>Doesn’t present any good arguments himself

If you want a full page wall of text about why I think temporary immunity with CD timers is a good thing and how I think it would impact the game, just say so, but that isn’t what you want and you damn well know it.

>no good reason

When people post willfully stupid snarky shit like “It’s CROWD control” in regards to stun and freeze mechanics (colloquially referred to as CC) with the obvious implication that it somehow is right out to use it against tougher individual mobs for no real reason in particular other than the colloquial term for it obviating that possibility when interpreted so literally as to be, as I said, willfully stupid… Yeah, I get my hackles up.

What a nice, polite way to say “fuck you” in so many words.

First off: If they need to nerf LMBFTW monstrosities of builds, so fucking be it. “Uproar” be damned, it’ll go away soon enough one way or the other.

Second: Again with the “might be”, “maybe”, “what if” crap.

Offer a reasoned and logical perspective that doesn’t just consist of either “what if? what if?” or outright stupid thought-terminating one-liners and I’ll try to see it from “someone else’s perspective”.

You just need to think outside the box. :stuck_out_tongue: Iscandara body, helmet end mantle, 6%phyz res on boots, gloves and pants , mark on divinity, 2100 DA and lifesteal from revenant and voila - you can facetank the maiden.

With such setup one could simply play Sorc instead. :undecided:

Pyro is better for dual-pistiols, therefore tankier.
BTW do blackwather cocktail stack with DEE phyz dmg debuff? If yes, i dunno how he can have any problems with tankiness.

I actually don’t know if it stacks. Never tried CD DEE on a dual pistols pyro.

Well I do have DW pistol pyro that is able to facetank most of nemesis w/o issues (except MQ, for her you need kiting), tho its a bit weaker than 2H ranged harbinger setup I posted.

And no, its not using Iskandra or DEE

DEE for 18% phyz debuff.

Transmuted bwc is 25%.

i know, but do they stack? I always trough that they dont, and never actualy tried

CC not working and little to no defensive stats on non-heavy armor are the two main reasons casters and ranged builds are weaker.
Though I enjoy my Druid, he cant facetank shit but damn that DPM is massive and so much fun…
