Only way I have been able to furnish spices to my village is buying them at the Trade Center. And they are expensive! Is there anything I’ve missed in foraging? Or a way to produce them?
You can only buy them, but they result in a significant profit when sold as luxuries through your markets to manors. If you can afford the initial investment they’re a great boost to your gold income.
Thanks for the information.
I tink it’s only the last tier of housing that uses them so you don’t need to buy them too early on.
I’m not even sure they appear before you have a manor or two. But even when I have several tens of thousands of dollars in my trading center to buy things, spices take a HUGE chunk of it for just a few.
But my experience seems to be that once a manor has them, you don’t have to keep resupplying them. This seems to apply to all the luxuries and the necessities for all houses, yes?
I’m sure I’ve had some in “Large House” as well, but that might be my dodgy memory… but yes, if you’ve got buyers for them then buy and become a Spice pusher! Cha-ching!
I worry that Spice might be a consumable commodity, that once introduced and becomes the expected norm among your population, the AI will see it as a way to attack you and stop supplying it.
Making your population destroy you from within, no raids or armies required.
I never buy Spice, or anything else I cannot self-replicate from the trading post.
Doing so is a recipe for disaster.
It’s just another luxury, like glass and furniture, except you can’t make it yourself.
In my latest build on v0.8.1 I have a number of manor houses but the traders rarely, if ever, turn up with spices. In other builds they have turned up more frequently.
If I recall correctly a while back it was mentioned that being able to request commodities might be introduced. Has this been implemented?
No, that’s not in the game yet.
For the same reason it’s not a good idea to get addicted to anything you don’t control.
It gives control of your people’s happiness to your supplier.
In this case the ‘supplier’ is a game engine designed to destroy you by any means available.
If the need for Spice is the only weakness your build shows, guess which commodity will never show up at the TP, ever again.
Um… extra luxuries just give you a bonus and extra tax gold, not the other way around. You don’t get a negative for not having something you once had, unless you don’t have any other luxuries and the only way you’ve managed to meet the luxury criterion is by trading for something. But spices are otherwise no different to other luxuries.
Desirability is a weakness the AI will exploit any way it can.
