Are there any items that are cornerstones?

It’s a vague question but I’ve picked up Grim Dawn again and began looking through the build planner/item database and it seems items don’t really change how you play, compared to uniques in other ARPGs. Are most items useful because they add on some “on event” modifier and not too gamechanging?

Essentially, yeah. If you plan on using a few core skills throughout your character, the most you’re gonna get is some colour/fx changes and or juicy item modifiers to make the skill slap harder. It won’t change how you play per se.

Ah, thanks for the information. It’ll probably be good for a playthrough then but I can’t see myself spending too much time on endgame.

To me the answer is kinda yes and no. High level items probably won’t change your build, because you will find other items that support your build.

As far as I know no item completely change the game itself. You won’t find wings to fly or something else that would fundamentally change core mechanics.

What legendary drops do trigger is altoholism though…

Things like pass-through to Primal Strike or spammable Aegis of Menhir / Doom Bolt change the gameplay a bit but that’s about it I think.

There might be more in the upcoming expansion.
