Area level range on elite difficulty with both expansions

Hello,

I’ve noticed on a few playthroughs now that as soon as I hit elite difficulty the monsters in the areas I go through are too low level for my character. For example I am now in the Arkovian foothills with my character at level 75 and the monsters around level 68-70. This makes the elite difficulty playthrough a bit boring.

I think the problem lies in the fact that I go through the expansions sequentially, so on normal difficulty I first go through the main campaign, then Ashes of Malmouth and finally Forgotten Gods.

When I again start on elite difficulty the added experience from both expansions does not scale well with the area levels.

Perhaps it would be good to have another look at the maximum area levels considering both expansions exist now.

While not ideal you can take it as an incentive to skip parts of the first difficulty. Or - as you have apparantly multiple characters - you use Difficulty Merits to start any new chars on the second.

Elite has become pretty redundant over time. I do the same thing as you, going through the entire Veteran difficulty, ending around level 70.

I use Elite only to max out devotion and then go straight to Ultimate.

Merits were a really good addition.

As i do always full playthrough on all difficluties (6th time now), i had the same “problem” beeing overleveld and that leads to not only beeing boring but more importantly, you wont get faction rep and also something like aether crystals can stop dropping as a worst case.
Here are some things i changed so it becomes not boring like you desrcribed it IF you wanna do full playthroughs but even if you dont put your emphasis on full.

  1. Dont use too much XP poitions except once at the very start to get a one time early little push and later eventually one or two more. There is enough xp.

  2. After hitting lvl 70 (more about that below) dont immediatley hand in last part side quests at NPCs very close to Portals. Only hand in main quest and sidequest on the road and of course those who are previous to the last part of sidequests.
The main goal is to get lvl 70 asap AND simultaniously have revered all basic factions and honored all expansion ones, to get the full potential of augments to…

  3. … switch to Elite immediately after hitting 70 while be fully prepared (augments, eventually faction equip) for the Resistance hit.
That will be around the time you have cleared normal basic game and the way up to Malmouth to get access to bounty table and faction trader and dipping in FG to get both honored. (in general, relic crafting helps alot to push most faction reps although some relic bounties dont offer you rare materials back, beware!)

  4. At level 70, thats where i have still some Maltmouth (last district and final boss dungeon) and alot of FG on Normal to do (and alot of kept last part side quests), i will start Elite until around act 3 or so and at that point its starting to get less of an issue with level scaling. Then you can decide to go back to finish Normal.

IN SHORT:

Dont overuse XP potions

Keep back last part side quests if possible

Go Elite at 70 no matter what

Honestly, base game on Elite should scale to the same level the expansions scale to, which i believe is around 95. The base game ending at like 81 or so is annoying. I just end up skipping trash mobs since they don’t give exp.

Level scaling is a significant issue, and unfortunately it primarily affects newer players. A few threads have discussed this recently, so hopefully it’ll be addressed.
