Attribute point guide

It seems attribute points are the easiest way to completely screw up a character.

I guess what I’m looking for it a guide or rule of thumb to help me determine how to allocate for different builds.

I know on my physical piercing blademaster that cunning needs to be way up there… but how much physique and spirit needs to be thrown in there? How easy it is to make the character unplayable in ultimate??

Is it possible to make a balanced Warder that I can swap points around to go from caster to 2h melee types, or do I need separate characters for each.

I’m starting to suffer from “attribute anxiety”

I wish there was some way of reallocating them, but I figure the devs have their reasons.

The problem is that attributes don’t really do much to start with. I think I allocated all my points in lv 60 and havn’t spent any the last 10 levels in case I need them to wear equipment which needs spirit.

Really 1 point of physique is 3 hp and 0.4 DA.

1 point of cunning is +0.35% (phys) dmg and 0.4 OA.

In the grand scheme of things where your cunning will give you naturally already +200% dmg and your skills/equipment/cosntillations will also give you 400-500% damage (for a total of +700% dmg) putting any points into cunning solely for damage is actually quite futile. 0.4 OA isn’t that much either when equipment you find later has +200 OA.

The general consensus is that in late game it’s easier to find equipment which has modifiers to OA/DA/manaregen than for hp so therefore most people dump their stats in physique for more health and DA, unless they need spirit/cunning for equipment.

Hmm. Okay. Thanks. I guess since it seems that attributes are so limited that they’d be a bigger deal. I suppose for absolute min/max people that like to crunch numbers and formulas, it can matter more. I just don’t want to make a character unplayable.

The easiest way to make a character unplayable, is not to have enough physique for an endgame item you want to wear. The Physique requirements go up to 980sth for legs and chestpieces. The spirit and cunning you need for rings and weapons are neglegible in comparison. Go with physique for at least 60 levels.

My rule of thumb is to spend enough points to wear the stuff you want and dump the rest into physique.

I think you need around 500 Cunning/Spirit to wear the very best items in these categories.

When you reach just enough hp with your build to feel comfortable there is no need to scale it further, and you will do better scaling dps, however small the gains are. Its best to plan your stat distribution ahead, which may be difficult when you are new. When you are new, dumping more points into physique won’t hurt since you won’t always have access to hp gear.

You want to dump more points into physique for classes that do not have access to hp from skills or maivens (ex.: saboteur).

With soldier you have military conditioning which gives both physique and health, so there is no need absolutely to go full physique. You also have veterancy in case you need to lower requirements.

Nightblade has anatomy of murder to scale cunning, so its not a bad idea to put some points in cunning when playing phys/pierce or bleed build. Especially bleed, since it scales much better. 2 : 1 can yield you 700-900 cunning.

Arcanist has inner focus to scale spirit. Spirit boosts magic damage much better than cunning does physical, and it also boosts mana/regen. Again some points here can help you with magic damage. Its even better for mana hungry builds like aether ray. Maiven’s sphere lets you get away with less hp. 1 : 1 distribution can yield you 1100-1400 spirit.

Look at lvl 65-75 focus, they have highest spirit requirements, Wretched Tome of Nar’Adin. Its no problem for arcanist, but when you don’t have arcanist mastery (ex.: conjurer) its a different story.

Perhaps through Devotion you could take some stats, if you spend already all points

mammothhunter summed it up pretty well.

Basically:

  1. You want to get enough stat points to wear the best of anything that you think your build needs. So if you’re playing a heavy armor build make sure you can use the best heavy armors, or if you’re playing a sword-user make sure you have enough cunning to use the best swords. You can use the Graceful Dawn site to check for item requirements.
  2. More physique never hurts.
  3. As you become more experienced and get a feel for what you think is the best amount of HP you should aim for with your builds you can start sinking points in other things besides physique.
  4. The game gives you plenty of ways to raise your stats/HP/mana. As you become more experienced you should learn to identify these and use them. In the end, the main advantage of stat points is that they’re reliable - you’ll always have them even if you need to switch gear pieces around - but you get better returns by increasing stats through items/devotions/etc.

Alright. That eases the anxiety a bit.
Thanks guys.

my rule of thumb is to put everything into physique.

a point in physique is never wasted because all characters need survivability. then I always figure out a way to equip gear through devotion, components etc.

my main is level 60 though so maybe you reach a point where this doesn’t work.
