My take on it is that it would be nice, but within reason. If there’s hundreds of potions dropping all the time then filling my inventory with them would be a bit of a pain. Perhaps maybe cap the amount of potions you will automatically pick up so they don’t go above a certain point? Either that or instead of potions have like a little “pool” of reserve health and mana you can tap into when needed. Think Super Metroid’s extra energy tank. Same functionality as potions, no inventory clutter, build it into the UI, bingo.
The problem I’d see to this is picking up unwanted potions. For example, in TQ my Conqueror rarely picked up energy potions, only if I were really low on energy because I’ve been using it a lot lately and I happen to come across an energy potion, otherwise I’d ignore them. So having a way to control what types to pick up as well as limiting how much you pick up, but then again if the stacks are to be much larger it won’t be as much of a problem, because 100 or so in TQ filled up about half of your main inventory space. I never needed too many potions, I usually kept at most a little over 100 just so I don’t have to worry too much about potions, but it did take up quite a bit of inventory space, so there were plenty of times where I ignored picking them up if I felt I reached my personal limit.
Why not just remove potions from the inventory screen entirely? Just let them stack in the skillbar up to their max. Everyone’s gonna pick them up, the game will even offer to do it automatically, why waste good inventory space on it?
+1 from me.
@icedmetal57: Sounds like money will have more meaning in GD as in TQ.
THIS!
Treat it like they go into a belt.
Ahaha, this kinda pisses on my idea of removing them from the inventory screen
But you’ve got people supporting your idea. Auto Potion Pickup somehow implies, that we will be snowed under with potions again. But they will be more rare … which makes auto pickup less necessary … I’m still in favour of it!
Maybe transmuting picked up potions into currency automagically if you reached the cap?
As long as you can still sell potions if you find you don’t use them and need more money to buy that really cool sword at the merchants.
But canceling healing effect when taking damage would be really tough playing against bosses. Normal creeps you can just run away from a bit, but bosses often have a small area that you fight on and AoE spells :undecided:
auto gold, auto potions.
Life is too short for clicking on gold. we all played diablo 2 to death. Down with clicking! Down with clicking!
I don’t like the idea of auto-pickup of potions. The player needs to decide how many of what potions he needs as dictated by his character build.
I want to agree, I imagine killing even a single enemy and everytime I am picking up those damn potions, even though my inventory is nearly filled with them or other items and just aren’t needed. As long as potions arent rare I don’t think auto-pickup is good. Gold doesn’t use space, potions do.
Yes to auto potion pickup. A toggle would be ideal, however potions I would imagine would be stackable and they take up little room in inventory. Worst case scenario is spending a few seconds every 10 or 15 minutes discarding unwanted potions, a small price to pay for all the time saved by not furiously clicking left and right to pick up potions all the time.
I’m all for it. Who says, “Nah, I don’t want no stinkin’ health potions, thems for wusses!”
Well, I think auto pick up for potion should be at least an option, if not completely absent. We’re talking about valuable item here, as it seems potions will be less common.
I’m all ok for gold pickup as it really is the kind of ressource that you will always pick up and that cannot change a battle. But talking about potions, players should have to click on it as it can be a matter of life or death. It’s like in RPG, your character is fighting and you have to make two actions, picking up a potion and fighting (or defense). You shouldn’t be able to pick up and fight at the same time at no cost.
The cost to me is that you have to click on the item to pick it up! It won’t affect much the parts when you don’t fight as there is supposed to have less potions.
And, come on, next step of automation is what? rare items? unique?
Please at least make it an option…
i dont mind this feature, but i would prefer its an option. cause of multi and for the people that dont want it. you can satisfy everybody.
Default should be off though
Hi Anarchronique, hi SoetSout,
Auto-pickup will only save your neck (by one click), if you ran out of potions (that’s when you would appreciate it the most, wouldn’t you?). Otherwise it is just a convenience feature (and yes, I’d like auto-pickup of other items, too :p). And MP will not be compromised as …
Hi Eisprinzessin!
Well…
Auto-pickup will only save your neck (by one click), if you ran out of potions (that’s when you would appreciate it the most, wouldn’t you?).
That’s pretty much my point, I don’t want something auto to save me from drinking blindly all of my potions. If I have no potions anymore in combat, this is when I made mistake and I have to manage myself to get out of the situation, thus having to click on something like an health potion that dropped on the floor is really logical to me.
But passing by a potion and having it directly available for drink sounds a bit cheesy to me…
While I think about it, an auto potion pickup can satisfy everybody depending on its radius. If you really have to come close to the potion… well, it’s like you’ve clicked on it except you don’t have to be that bored of clicking the item itself.
Ok, I’ll go for the auto potion pickup with a little radius of effect
