♦ Awesome Idea ♦

This idea is pretty much already exist, but as a mod. I would really, really like it to be officially implemented in the game, as usually, I am not the one to use mods and prefer original content. The reason is that mods makes game disbalanced, but original game DEVs try to make stuff balanced and fit every game mechanics, without causing any disturbance between each other.

Here is the mod:

^It’s damn brilliant. I don’t know why DEVs never came with something like that. It adds another layer of complexity and diversity. I do agree that some limitations must be made, not to make it OP.
Here are my ideas to make it fit original game:

  • NPC that could do those upgrades must be available when you reach current last act. The castle location where you have last place with merchants.
  • Only skills on the same type of equipment can be moved. I mean, boot skills can only be moved to boots, shoulder skills only to shoulders, etc.
  • When you move skill to the equipment that already has their own skill, it will be replaced with the new one.
  • Equipment is destroyed upon creating a “skill rune” out of it.
  • Equipment that is enchanted with this “skill rune” will be soul bound.
  • Can’t enhance same equipment piece more than once with “skill rune”.
  • Equipment that is enhanced with “skill rune” will have its description removed if it has any. Or maybe it would be better if description changed/added to something like: “Touched by (NPC NAME)”

It would make items too op imo. Some procs like a proc from Ulzuin’s helm are gamechangers.

Like the Devs don’t have enough things to balance already

This would be a nightmare to balance and lot of items would lose their individuality.

Also, stuff like Ulzuin’s Flame proc being on a regular helm would make no sense lore wise.

I like the mod but it’d definitely be a balancing nightmare. Maybe as a one off quest reward it might work, you know like Personalization in DII:LoD. Something along those lines to spawn a special smith who can do the “Reskill” thing once and the proc gem itself would function similarly to augments making the item soulbound
