But i could use this build to farm for it in mean time right? If not I will either push my pet conj up or my posion witch hunter(currently 44 just not that fun anymore lol)
You can farm with his “before switch” build
I was hoping so! Thank you for the help! got few leveling epics that will help me a decent amount lacking a decent wep until 30/35 got a couple cold dmg epic wands.
Ok my 2 cents, as i have lvl85 poison witchhunter built like this http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24839
I enjoy the WH much more. The Eye of Dreeg + the 2x Poison Nova DOTs have each lower cooldown than Devastation in the Blood Orb build (basically spammable). Eye of Dreeg has double the radius of Devastation. Blood Orb build has Greater fireball that has no cooldown, but i don’t somehow like that spell (it comes from component, meaning also lower damage and level1). Flash Freeze in the BloodOrb build has ok cooldown but low damage (its CC spell anyways).
I personally am very disappointed with the Blood Orb build, and super pleased with the Poison WH build. Just my 2 cents.
I made a mistake by reading this statement by OP: “Devastation is the single largest damage dealing skill in the game for AoE and single target if it is aimed properly”, AND believing, that it means, that “Devastation” is skill with largest AOE clear in game. Didnt know anything about the skill at that time. Its basically like Blizzard from Diablo2, with 5 meter radius, has some splash on periphery, MASSIVE 18 second cooldown, huge damage over few seconds. Now take Dreegs Evil Eye with Focused Gaze, 10.3 radius, 4sec cooldown, and them 2 extra poison novas (kinda like fireball nova in diablo1, if you know what i mean). Dots stack and without diminishing returns, thanks to recent patch. Add to it other sources of poison damage like Nidalas justifiable ends (one of the highest single target dps skills), etc (you have like 10 choices). - and what that build gives you is spammable aoe trash clearing, single target wiping char, also max movement speed from Pneumatic burst + “blink” from shadow strike = youre running like madman around spitting on everything and watching it die. Much Fun. No speed skill with BloodOrb, no blink. Try both, let me know, maybe BloodOrb can be fun but i havent found much liking in the mechanics or the timing of this build.
EDIT: I was hoping i could make Flash Freeze (OFF) do some insane chaos damage and have high AOE high damage trash clearing spell w this build basically. OFF has largest AOE in game AFAIK, sometimes even hitting through walls. But nah OFF with BloodOrb = not impressive at least what i tested. If you want OFF build then go WarpFire like this instead https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeyW8tqYcvs
Might not be the fastest clearer but it is the coolest build
Atm I am stuck between this and a callidor’s tempest build
I’m in the same boat as you, have a 21 arcanist as my second character. I’m leveling as described in this guide, but I don’t know if this is the build I want to pursue. If I go warlock, the only builds I see are this and DEE builds.
I have the blood orb of cth’thon that this build requires, but i also have an aldanar’s vanity, wraithborne legwraps, and the recipes for maw of despair and iskandra’s hood, all of which are great items for an aether arcanist.
I’ve been trying to decide what to do all day, and have come to the conclusion that I should just go full arcanist for the time being, trying out each of the various skills. If I hate PRM or callidors, or hate the cooldown of devestation, these could all impact my decision. I’ll get to try out the aldanar’s vanity from 50+, so I won’t have to wait too long before I’ll have most of the relevant information.
Just cleared Elite with this build… really, Clairvoyant is as essential to this build as the Blood Orb is. Equipping that set makes you an absolute beast! I especially like the Clairvoyant ability to rapidly regenerate all your energy at the touch of a button; makes continously casting Doom Bolt and Devastation a piece of cake. The 10% chance of 100% skilldown reduction is damn neat as well as sometimes you get to cast Doom Bolt/Devastation again instantly, happens way more often than I thought it would.
I use this devotion setup to gain access to both Dying God and Spear of the Heavens; the strongest chaos and aether constellations. I managed to still squeeze Giant’s Blood in there which makes me very happy :). I also get +lore points for having both the dying god and the spear that killed him in my stars, kinda emphasizing the whole dark/light chaos/aether theme going in this build. It makes my lores tingle I dunno haha. I like Spear of the Heavens… haven’t reached it currently but tried it earlier in my build; when something annoying curses you from across the screen and it just gets divine wrath brought down upon it every second for daring to touch me, love it for those skeleton priests :-P.
Dying God’s Hungering Void is a skill I will NEVER skip on a chaos build after trying it in this build. At max rank it lasts something like 20 seconds or more, more than enough to finish any boss I’ve come across so far. +30% crit damage for 20 seconds at will is nothing to scoff at.
All in all really satisfied with this build. Having both Doom Bolt and Devastation just feels so damn powerful, it’s a blast to just point at something and watch it explode in a red 60k crit mess
Thx, gonna try this build! Recently got the Clairvoyant Robe with my Main and also really liked the Warlock style of the build.
I will try to build around the Chaos-Ray as long as I dont have the Orb.
Also what do you do to reduce the cooldown of devestation, is it only gear based?
Another question: Is it possible to make the build Ultimate viable without Mavens
Sphere? I know its a pretty good skill but I really dont like the look of it.
Also @Adrius: THX for your devotion setup looks really freakin cool, especially the fact that you got Dying got, Behemoth AND Spear of Heavens!
you get around 20 to 30% Cooldown Reduction from gear, then once you have the Clairevoyant set you have a 10% chance for 100% CDR. So when that Procs on Doom Bolt or Devastation you get to cast a 2nd one instantly.
Lvl 81 right now, and with all the +skill bonuses on the equipment I managed to reach breakpoints on all essential skills and also max out Sigil of Consumption which I’m now using instead of Greater Fireblast.
SoC fits this build much better since you can kite very effectively with it… standing around for too long is a death sentence.
I expect this to be one of the better cooldown based builds when the next patch hits with its adjustments to devotion proc chance. It might even be worth it to switch in the Aetherfire devotion and put it on Devastation, it will likely trigger like crazy.
EDIT:
If anyone is curious of how this build can play, I uploaded a quick Ultimate Cronley run.
Where can I farm the Blood Orb of C’thon ? I wasn’t able to find the info. Thanks in advance for the help.
Its a random drop, drop “location” is not tied to anything specific. I have a spare one however if you need
Thanks for that awesome build.
Just a noob question, why everything into physique ? I know survivability is crucial in hardcore but isn’t our spirit direclty increasing our DPS ?
Wouldn’t 1:1 or 2:1 physique/spirit be viable ?
Damage bonus from stats is addictive to the bonus from items. Technically speaking, all stat bonuses are irrelevant, Physique just being a bit more relevant than others.
I finally have this approximate build at 85 and my items are nearly complete. It is powerful and fun. Just beat the game ultimate HC.
Dropping those devastations and doom bolts has been a blast
The tankiness (32% damage absorbption from Maiven’s + Possession) is really nice for HC
I do have a comment that I wanted to through out. I played around with excess skill points and ended up maxing out Trozan’s sky shard (with one point in each of its upgrades to take advantage of the free +skill points).
Since all cold/lightning is converted to Chaos and Chaos is well over +1000%, Trozan’s sky shard hits like a frigging truck and freezes its targets. For me, each shard is nearly (~30%) of a doom bolt damage. So if they all hit the same target, it’s comparable. But the skill cool down is 2.3 seconds… With my CDR, it’s under 2 secs. And the cold freeze effect last 2 secs. You can throw this out 3 times for every doom bolt. So it just flat-out increases your damage output a lot.
So you can keep dropping these on whatever “tough guys” are annoying you and not only does it hit hard, but it perma freezes them.
Just thought someone else might want to try it as well.
Can you write up your skills/devotions in grimcalc and post when you have a chance please?
Yeah man I was thinking of trying something like this aswell, maybe throw in AAR + disintegration, skyshards, devastation, 1 point in doombolt - seems legit.
http://grimcalc.com/build/aBq9MX
Hi guys, here is the grimcalc, with equipment on. I am missing Clairvoyant mantle and a few minor spots could be optimized, but he was good enough to beat the game on ultimate hc.
IMO, aether ray and disintegration are bad. I really wanted to make it work - I have an outstanding feedback on how to fix aether ray on these forums.
But on HC anyway, it is stupid to sit there channeling an ability which only hits one enemy. Standing still is stupid. Mobs bum-rush you and cast AoE DoT spells where you are standing.
As a caster you want to be moving always, dropping devastation and using Olexra’s flash freeze to freeze mobs in the devastation center. I then throw out doom bolts on tough stuff and spam trozan’s sky shard. My left-click “auto attack” is greater fireblast converted to chaos, for some damage and proccing Wendigo (wendigo bc I built up vitality to maximize disintegration, only to find it is bad).
AAR requiring you to be stationary kills it. The single target damage, regardless of how high it is, combined with its slow activation and pivot time really kill its viability further. Even with superb mana regen, it consumes too much mana. And beyond that, maxing out AAR and disintegration is a gross point sink.
I have tried speccing AAR. The build still works. It simply increases clear time. AAR actual DPS is bad because it’s single target. You can get similar DPS numbers from left-click attack builds, but those builds get to move around, proc a zillion abilities and AOE effects, and don’t rapidly drain their mana.
EDIT: I must add that my devotion is almost entirely defensive to ensure survivability in HC mode; it’s possible that AAR is more viable with proper devotion support. In HC I don’t really have that luxury.
hey guys, i’m currently running this approximate build in hc ultimate and i just wanted some opinions on gear. for hands i’ve been debating between aethereach or doomtouch and for feet it’s between voidwalkers, wraithwalkers, spellsage boots or just go for health and defense with golemborn. please let me know what you think. thx
