For the record doom, I always appreciate/respect your pushback. And I’m not trying to argue with you, so much so as I’m trying to have a discussion here.
- New vitality offhand - Fits one of the damage type themes of the new content, just another neat thing. It being overtuned is neither here nor there. If it displaces other gear it can be nerfed/tweaked/reworked as feedback comes in. He doesn’t need a reason to add a new legendary, players like new legendaries. Whether or not you would have preferred one to fill a different perceived hole for a damage type or build is subjective.
Why shouldn’t its overtune-ness be a factor? If it renders all other vitality offhands for the shaman class obsolete as far as efficiency goes, surely it has further widened the chasm between underperforming gear, and OP gear.
Buffing explosive strike - Less about buff, more about consistency. Players have complained about the clunk of chance for extra damage. If it’s overtuned now he can always just tune it down a bit more. Chance for bonus damage has been phased out for a while now.
But the complaints were before the new/improved valduun was introduced.
And I believe the complaints about ES revolved predominantly around the fact that it is unaffected by conversion mods affecting FS.
But with valduun, and with the innate %WD on ES, you’ll get near perfect conversion without even trying.
- Beronath ammy - Overperforming as a single blue item.
Perhaps. But I still think they are plenty of ways to rebalance this item.
Nerf to aether SBoE - Maybe someone said something about it/Allagast and Z agreed. Not everything needs to be in the 6 minute range. See my earlier point about different views on acceptable disparities between build performance. I’m of the mind that if it’s under 7:30 it’s still fine. Those sub 6 minute builds would get targeted is more players asked them to be unless they’re green heavy. If it was overnerfed you and others can provide video evidence of it instead of being dramatic and Zantai can obviously considered reigning back some of the nerf.
There are no viable aether SBoE specs in the end game. Not once have I ever seen a build use transmuted SBoE.
It has nothing to do with a 6 minute clear.
Addition of a new shadow strike set when deathguard and dunefiend are bloated and blue for having lain dead in the water for such a long time. - Dead in the water is an over-statement. Notice how now builds are pushing even higher in SR? This is what power creep does. From an older metric they were fine. If they need buffs or reworking evidence of that can be provided via video or reported Crucible times/or problems with SR and Z will consider it. I’m sure he’d even be open to reworking one of them if someone has a good thematic idea for it that’ll also work better. Having existing sets with subjectively perceived issues does not need to inhibit Z from adding a new one with different damage types. There are a bunch of people who want more SS support and it’s being phased in.
But we aren’t playing under these same older conditions. The game has gotten significantly harder, and the buffs sets like deathguard have received pale in comparison to the power creep.
Especially when these sets are nips deep in one of the most undersupported damage types - acid.
I know for a fact that superfluff has written essays on deathguard, arguing for its buffs; I too have pushed for buffs to acid damage and have explained why I think it’s underperforming, yet too little has been done to address to core issue of the problem:
- CC-res
- OA/DA
- Resists
Sure, there are new rings, and new acid items which will help these sets more, but these aren’t enough.
And yes, you are right to say that not all builds should be performing at the same level in my privileged min/maxer world.
But surely something’s off when a deathguard spec using double rares is performing worse than a storm serpent spec without double rares!
