[Battlemage] Dual Mindwarp

I wanted to make an aether based character and I haven’t made a dual wielding character in a while so I decided to combine them.

I’m thinking of dual wielding the Mindwarp since the damage conversion to Aether is pretty decent as well as a nice aether proc. Obviously, this means I’m going to be using a dual wielding enabling item (Not sure which one yet).

Will these procs have their own cooldown? Will they stack if they proc at the same time?

I understand they have their own cooldowns, but that would not matter as they have a 100% chance to activate on a critical attack, which means that the buffs always overlap.

And buffs do not stack, so you probably want to use two different weapons.

Character sheet says it stacks, though you are right about the overlapping proc.

Interesting - do we have a bug here?

If they are intended to stack, I’ll still go with the plan, but… thanks for checking on this. :slight_smile:

Pretty sure its not a bug; toggled buffs don’t stack (to my knowledge) but procs or temporary buffs usually do. Burst of Speed, for instance, also stacks.

Melee Aether is unfortunately not very strong, for a couple reasons. For one, its difficult to accumulate flat Aether Damage (that would be funneled through % Weapon Damage), making the damage type function kinda similarly to Vitality Damage. Unlike Vitality, however, Aether Damage does not have common Resist Reduction, so it does not scale as well as Vitality does.

In that vein, there are TONS of enemies that are highly resistant or outright immune to Aether, and since -Aether Resist isn’t common, and since with Mindwarp essentially all of your damage will be Aether for some periods of time, these enemies will take FOREVER to kill. Aether Crystals, Heralds/Terraformers, and Abominations fall into this category.

Finally, Mindwarp was indirectly nerfed in 1.0.0.5:

The % Physical damage penalty is actually a conversion of Physical -> Nothing, and because conversion stacks additively, your 100% Physical -> Aether is not going to be as high as you’d think if you were to take Maiven’s, which would otherwise go perfectly with Mindwarps.

And the Game Guide was updated:

Buffs, Debuffs and Damage over Time
[…] For buffs with a duration that are applied from equipment procs, the effects are independent and will stack.

I am trying to complete a build on this. I really hope it will change this opinion at least to some extent. Just need a couple more items and to actually find the time to make a couple of videos at least.

This is weird. I wonder why duped buffs stack and duped debuffs, like let’s say Exterminus or Eternal Haunt, do not.

How is it going with the build?

A second mindwarp dropped for me earlier today, and I’ve been wanting to try a build including the two.

My build is two handed and also works great. I have cadence and Force wave variants. If I post it will be for the Force wave

I am making a build and even i am successful, my opinion would stay the same. The game literally treats Aether as a cast only damage type. IIRC besides Vortex of Souls and Mindwarp no aether weapon gives you attack speed. Not to mention how hard to debuff it is.
