With this change Hellhound becomes a lot more powerful since the amulet and main hand slots are unlocked. However the beastcaller set is still is one of the worst ones in the game in terms of the stats it gives you.
The only generic %damage you get is behind a 60% uptime proc. Since the big pet rebalance patch pets became very reliant on stacking a lot of %damage, which is the reason vit/chaos dominate at the moment.
The removal of the crit damage makes a build that wants to use briarthorn as their main pet even worse. Briarthorn has been the most underwhelming pet in terms of main damage output for a while now and has mostly been relegated to a one pointer tank for it’s aura.
Briarthorn MI’s were nerfed a lot back when briarthorn was good and it feels like some slots don’t provide much value. Main hand especially doesn’t really provide anything for briarthorn aside from cold/acid convert, which again is anti synergistic with beastcaller’s pet bonuses. I think buffing Briarthorn specific MIs and legendaries is the best approach for bringing Briarthorn back to relevancy. Maybe even adding new modifiers to some of the less used pet items.
Phys pets really need something special to make them a viable option (a lot more %damage imo). Enemy armour is a big problem for pets due to the nature of your damage being divided between multiple pets. Maybe adding pet stats to Bear could be an interesting approach.
Not much to go on in this thread. No data, no build(s), no run times, no comparison to make your argument that the removal of % Crit damage was detrimental.
This is a mastery combo set, not a mono-Briarthorn set and that is what it’s being balanced around.
May it be possible to change pet sets to tri mastery combo set? I mean sets supporting 2 pet mastery and 1 other mastery, to make pet spellbinded, pet pyromancer, pet druid, pet trickster or pet deathknight more available/playable. Though we already have some gears supporting them, it’s not enough at all. They are all meme builds. These semi-pet mastery combo need more support to be available.
p.s. especially druid, whose name gives people a stereotypical impression of pet.
I wouldn’t say that the set is one of the worst pet set in the game considering the set theme/focus is on pets defensive attributes and cc resist, it can also be used as dual physical/bleeding damage with minimal effort like this to be more offensive:
By changing the pants and one of the ring it can even reach 22/22 on both Emboldening Presence and Mogdrogen’s Pact.
I like the idea of giving 3rd mastery support, Druid Beastcaller, could be a DOT Internal Trauma pet build, with Overload converted to IT by that elemental to physical pet belt. Warlock can gain extra IT from Infernal Breath and Lightning Strike. The Arcanist part can also give flat OA+DA reduction to Nullification for easier debuff.
If I had to make an educated guess I think beastcaller may be the strongest pet set now, but it’s frustratingly difficult to tell until pet damage over time stacks properly again. Trying to quantify a bleed build using this set is now basically impossible.
I think it is if you try to max out hellhound’s ember claw considering at the time, beastcaller wasn’t very good when it came down to aoe. With the extra hound, it should be in line with most well known aoe builds
Unfortunately, summoners are trapped in the development of three classes (Shaman, Occultist, and Necromancer). And connecting them with other classes is simply ineffective, even though there are items in the game that allow you to do this. The thing is, a pair of pets will do less damage compared to a Cabalist, who can have 20 or 21 pets available. There are only three items that would allow you to add new permanent pets in the game, and one of them is Ghost’s Malice. When they changed Nature’s Call Regalia, I thought about combining the Occultist and Demolitionist and making fire pets. However, even with 2 Hellhounds and 1 Familiar, the pets would not have enough damage compared to the Cabalist or Conjurer. Moreover, the Hellhound is not as durable as the Briarthorn, and it would constantly die against powerful enemies. Therefore, if they added more items that allowed us to summon new pets, we could combine them more effectively with other classes. I also believe that it is possible to create an item for Hellhounds that would allow you to temporarily summon multiple units, similar to how Blight Fiend (unstable anomaly) works. This way we can spam hellhounds and blow them up. It will be fun.
I think that’s how it should be, right? That the set works best with the classes it was designed for, rather than with classes that don’t have any pet bonuses.
There are items in the game that the developers intended us to use by combining classes, for example , the Occultist and the Demolitionist, creating a fire-based pet.
But in this case, we are limited to two pets - Hellhound and Familiar.
And I absolutely agree with this. If the developers do not plan to introduce new summoners sets to the game, then they can change the old ones by adding an additional class, as is the case with other sets that specialize in 3 classes.Alternatively, you can add relics and amulet to the game that allow you to summon an additional pet that deals a specific type of damage. We have:
Why not add something similar? The world of Cairn has a variety of Chthon demons, gargoyles, spiders, and so on that we can summon as pets.
Those I agree with, but I just have a feeling their main focuses is on player specific items besides pets with past patch changes
What about if they increased the health of the pet to match Briarthorns and slightly increase the physical resistance?
If I remember correctly when they first announced the expansion, there would be new relics, as well you as you could upgrade a tier 1 or 2 relic to match that of a end game item. So possibly the crab and the savage hellhound from tier 1.
This is interesting, of course, if the pets also changed depending on the level of the relic. However, it would also be nice to have new relics that could summon new pets. For example, a weak relic allows you to summon:
That would be really cool. And the same could be done with a crab and a hound.
I noticed that there is no relic in the game that gives both a pet bonus and a +1 to all occultist skills. It’s strange that it’s not available, considering that the occultist is a summoner class.
Hellhound dying is not a bad thing, in fact if it doesn’t die you basically don’t get half the skill text. It would be nicer if sets for Hellhound gave it some cooldown reduction to make use of that
