Beginner Builds

Hey out there,

as I’ve stated in my other thread, I’m completly new to the game and looking for a build to start with. I’m creating this new thread, since this is another approach to find a build fitting my needs.
I’ve read tons of builds, tried to create my own and came to the conclusion, I can’t just create my very first char with such an ultra endgame build in mind, so I need something to start with, something not so gear dependant but fun to play.

I’ve tried all basic kits in crucible Mode (just to get a feel for what I like and what not) and these are my favourites:

Nightblade (Shadowstep and Dualwielding)
Soldier
Occultist (especially cuz of Solaels Witchfire and Sigil of Consumption)
Arcanist (only if its not getting to flashy)

Possible Classes for me would be:
Blademaster
Witchblade
Witchhunter
Battlemage
Spellbreaker

I normally play tanky characters, such as Hell Knights (evil) or Paladins with either sword/board or 2-handed weapons, pure Melee Tanks without any Magic are just to boring in my opinion.
Which of all these mentioned Classes would u suggest to a beginner and why? (Preferable with a rough grimcalc/grimtools build?)

I have been working my way through hardcore for the first time and my witchblade has been very effective. There have only been a few close calls. I plan for it to look something like this.

The first character I beat the game with was a two-handed blade-arc blademaster (Pneumatic Burst is my favorite ability in the game and Shadowstrike is great too). It was getting difficult at the end but I did it.

Sham/Occ pet build is the absolute least gear dependent in the game, for normal and elite, but it is boring if you don’t like that play style.

Sword and Board witchblade is one of the most survivable builds there is but, getting the warborn set is a pain.

this is the basic skill setup i used on my 85 Hardcore dude

If you’d like a gear-independent pet build, then the one in my sig would work well.

Below is a link to a thread that provides a kind of build diary / level-by-level character development plan, and technical information about how to make the pet build in my sig work.

You can use whatever gear you can find, craft, or buy from faction vendors and do just fine.

Grim Dawn is a really well done ARPG and hopefully you have a lot of fun with it.
