Beronath's puddles

After beating Beronath in Ascendant several times with two quite different characters (Mortar Shieldbreaker and Werewolf Dreadnaught) I find myself choosing my Shieldbreaker for farming it, rather than Dreadnaught, simply because phase 2 really becomes a slog due to puddles spam.

I can get through phase 1 in about 15 seconds, but then there’s basically only dps downtime: it’s either in the air calling bolts or vomiting puddles after almost every time it leaps on you. In melee, the only proper damage window is if you bait the the ground fan attack and reposition behind it.

My suggestion would be either reduce the puddle lifespan or increase the cooldown for the vomit attack.

It’s not really about difficulty, it’s just that I don’t really find enjoyable idling 80% of phase 2, just waiting for that window to open while the whole arena fills with persistent black goo.

Thoughts?

puddles are fine imo, issue is flying happens too frequently, that’s what forces most downtime since you can reposition puddles, flying you can only wait

You can indeed reposition. I think you basically must, due to the huge damage debuff and how hard becomes to spot bolts’ marks on the ground if they overlap with the black goo.

The thing is, Beronath is really slow at chasing (unlike the Dread, for example), so luring it into a clean ground patch takes a while and it gets even worse as the fight goes on due to the rather lenghty puddle lifespan, so options are really limited.

someone posted this “instructional” lesson, and to me it illustrated my personal gripe decently, puddle gets baited out/avoid without much hassle, bero fucks off to the skies, forcing the wait more than the puddle (puddle being sorta similar to claw in terms of reposition)/flying has 0 counter other than waiting, puddle kinda has a mechanic you can deal with

The fight basically feels like Bero is kiting you 60% of the time.
Talking second phase - you avoid triple Doombolt wave and by the time the last bolt hits the ground you already need to dodge another 3 ‘standard’ bolts. You get used to it but the attack window is quite slim.
