Best components and augments

Hi!

In a situation when you can use and change green items to balance your stats, what are the best components and augments to use in your gear? Is there something like “I would use this specific set of components/augments and then balance with other stuff”?

And maybe you can give an advice for my character specifically, provided that he is a melee char with fire damage. https://www.grimtools.com/calc/4ZDQnPBN

It is hard to be cookie cutter about it. You have the items you find and they will have gaps that you need to fill, some of which become fillable once you gain levels and have access to higher level components and faction based augments.

That said I like Mark of the Traveler on my boots or Mark of Mogdrogen at later levels (not as much move speed but gives +% health).

I also seem to get a lot of mileage out of Antivenom Salve.

Silk Swatch on Chest, Legs, possibly Shoulders. Especially when heading into Act 2.

Runestone is nice for helmet components.

Wardstones or Corpse Dust for Rings and Amulets.

At least one Scaled Hide once you actually have some armor so you get closer to maximum value out of your armor.

The odd Soul Shard or Aether Soul.

Oh Riftstone if your character doesn’t have Blitz or Shadowstrike and you want a gap closer.

Basically I go look at my resistances and then when I’m juggling new gear, I go to the Grim Dawn database and look at see what will go on my new chest piece and fix my [whatever is low].

And do fix your resistances before adding damage. Going from 60% resistance to 80% resistance is huge.

Items with resistances and health are great.

3 Components to get Armor Absorption to 100 %.

For Rings and Amulet “Survivor´s Ingenuity”, sometimes 1 “Sylvarria´s Essence”.

The situation in the game right now is that the more component have resistances on it, the better I consider it. Especially true for casters. Also every dmg reduction from chtonics or aetherials is very good. Well generally, every way of mitigating dmg is king. That’s how I look at components right now. Maybe that will change with FG and changes to bonuses on char basic stats. We will see… soon™

COMPONENTS

Rings: Runebound Topaz on both 99% time
Amulet: Seal of Annihilation (offense) or Ancestry (defense) or sometimes Tainted Heart (res/crit/oa)
Medal: Tainted Heart or another Runebound Topaz, Arcane Spark for energy, Dread Skull for attack speed

For jewelry, Bloodied Crystal is worth mention for armor and bleed res. Black Tallow or Aether Soul are sometimes used on medals for the res.

Head and chest: Sanctified Bone for crucible, Eldrich Mirror for pets
Head: Prismatic Diamond, armor absorb components, Leathery Hide for stun res
Chest: armor absorb, Kylrian Soul for attack speed
Shoulders: armor absorb or Scaled Hide, sometimes Silk Swatch

Armor absorb components include Living Armor and Sacred Plating. For chest/head Titan Plating is worth a mention for pierce res. Chains of Oleron/Hallowed Ground occasionally go on the chest when oa/da is critically low.

  1. Pants: Scaled Hide most the time for armor absorb, sometimes Silk Swatch or general armor components

  2. Gloves: Restless Remains, Consecrated Wrappings for attack speed or general armor components

  3. Other Armor: Ugdenbog Leather or Spellscourged Plating, Mark of Mogdrogen on boots

Unless I overlooked sth, using anything else is usually suboptimal. Weapon augments are build-specific.

AUGMENTS are too build-specific to list them in one post. Two are worth a mention though. Survivor’s Ingenuity used to be by far the best option for jewelry but now has some competition. And you can never go wrong with Ravager Eyes on the weapons.

Would depend on your character tbh. Post a GT link for more specific suggestions.

Thank you all for the replies. My question arose because I had read that Ugdenbog Leather is a superior component, but now I see that there is enough competition for it.

Here is the link to my char. That char was born to be strange :). The idea is having constant Mark of Torment and Bloodthirster. And yes, he is a melee char with a caster off-hand.

That is a blank GT link :stuck_out_tongue:

You need to click on the “Link to this build” button on the top-left and copy-paste that.

Thank you for reminding!
