Non-Crucible, fast and efficient farming route?
How does one “farm” exactly?
Do you hunt for Treasure Boxes? Or hunt boss drops? Both?
EDIT: Crucible is a boring place to farm IMO.

I go for act bosses, heroes. If I find a Nemesis, or treasure trove along the way it’s a plus, but I don’t go looking for them.
Its Cronley run for me, good number of heroes plus chance of fabulous gonzar along with guaranteed ones
Most people usually do Cronley Runs or Royal Hive runs for farming, but personally I find that pretty boring… So I go with a more elaborate approach I guess in terms of what I farm…
Granted, I doubt this is highly efficient at all, but at least it’s varied… lol… Essentially I go after most Purple Bosses in the games (the ones with mostly static spawn locations…)… and than throw in an occasional Rogue Dungeon run or 2 during during my farming rotation…
Get ready, long post is coming, so feel free to read on if you wish ; also apologies in advance for my terrible spelling on some of the lore names of the game and all.)…
Here’s my Path, granted you don’t have to do all in go, at least you got a general idea on where to go for each Act:
If you prefer a more visual aide, someone made some great videos that’s basically the paths I use for me, with a few extra things I do besides the stuff mentioned in the videos:
Act 1 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DrjUDgTYoI
Act 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MP-vIZbmBRM
Act 3 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bzTMmGlPxc
Sadly the user never made an Act 4 it seemed… But my farming paths is basically what he does
And now my path:
Act 1:
Start at Devil’s Crossing and immediately run out and make my way towards the first Hidden Path area and take out the Guardian Dog there. (Google Hidden Path if you like the locations of all of em)
Than take Lower Crossing Rift, before going into the Burial Cave for that Purple Boss, find the Putrid Den which will be in one of 3 possible spawn points near Burial Cave in the “Old Dump” area and take care of that boss there first.
Next one is Foggy Bank Rift, and go into the Cavern that’s up North there’s a Purple Silth boss in there I take on.
Flood Passage Rift is next, I take on the 2 bosses in there (the one at the deprived sanctuary I believe, which you need Dynamite to enter that area, the undead area), and finally the Ancient Shambler at the end of the Passage.
After take the Burnwitch Outskirts Rift, and head my way to the Cthonic (the one that requires a key to enter for the first time…) area I believe ironically it’s “Deprived Sanctuary too” i think lol… Kill the purple boss in there, but remember to keep going and loot the “Grand” or “Surpreme” Chest that will be there after the boss. Since the boss, Salazar doesn’t drop any spoils…
Next up is Burnwitch Village Rift… First thing I do is find the Smuggler Basins’s as it’s one of 3 possible spawn points near it (same deal google for locations if you need too), kill the Purple Boss in there, and loot the chest, than head back to the Rift, and head towards the Abandon Waterfront and towards the other den that’s near there, another Hound like dog you take on like the Putrid Den… Finally, head back to the rift again and this time head East, to East Marsh… In East Marsh there’s 2 total bosses there (one directly south… than another by the devotion shrine…)… On my back from the Shrine, I head towards the Hidden Path and make my way towards the Temple… I than take on the Sentinel inside the Temple… Also looting the Treasure Trove if I see it on the way towards the Temple.
Last up is the Warden’s Lab Rift, and make my way towards the Warden, if I run into the Nemesis here, great, if I don’t, it’s no biggie, there’s other possible spawn points I can meet him at perhaps.
Act 2:
Arkovian Foothills Rift is next, I head Right first aka East I guess, and make my way towards the Den filled with Ghosts, and kill the purple boss inside there. Than back to the Rift and head left, aka West and enter the first mine (Stanton I believe) and kill the Purple boss inside there…
Old Arkvoia Rift next up, and make my way to the other Mine as well Hennefy I believe it’s called and kill the purple boss inside there. Than if I happen to get the Bounty to kill Boris (only way you can get him to spawn) make my way towards the Pit and defeat Boris, if not move on to Cronley’s hideout and hopefully run into the Bandit Nemesis at any one of these points.
Four Hills rift, aka Cronley’s hideout, pretty self explanatory while you’re in there
Act 3
Twin Falls rift is up next, and make my way towards the Swarming Hive first, not only is it a good source of Royal Jellys, but there’s a purple hive boss in there too. After, get back up and make my way to the Arkovian Undercity and kill the Purple Boss there on the 3rd floor. Naturally Undercity there’s a good chance to run into the Undead Nemesis so I look out for him.
Next up, Broken Hills Rift, I make my way to the 2nd part of the Hidden Path and kill the purple Bird boss guardian there after I head towards the Steps of Torment. Sometimes I stop at the 3rd floor and move on after killing that purple boss, and sometimes I use my skeleton Key and proceed to finish all of it instead. I also most of the time usually go after the Treasure Trove that’s in Steps of Torment cause it only has 5 possible spawn points in there, thus easy to locate unlike the Arkvoian Undercity which has 9 possible damn spawn points, lol…
Smuggler’s Pass Rift is up next, most of the time I take the Rift directly there, however, if I feel like killing a ton of Heroes along the way, than I’ll exit Step of Torment and just trek up from there… Most of the time you can run into about 6-10 heroes on the way there. (remember heroes can drop legandaries and patterns too)
Pine Barren’s rift is up next, I’ll make my way towards the Jagged Waste first and kill the Purple Manticore boss first, than trek down towards the next area and find Old Briarthorne’s lair (3 possible spawn points) in Sacred Basin. From that purple boss, you can jump directly down into the other Den/Cave that’s there and kill the purple spider boss that starts with a U. After that, I’ll exit the cave and make my way towards Tyrant’s Hold, for 2 purposes… The Purple Boss in there, but most importantly the Blacksmith that you can gamble with for Legendaries…
Next up is Homestead Rift, I’ll make my wards towards the Conflagration for the Herald of Destruction boss I believe it’s called, and hopefully find the atherial nemesis there too… If I feel like doing the new Port Vocab… (still can’t beat that damn Aldrich yet, UGH!, lol), I’ll head towards the Outskirts of Port Vocab kill the reskinned “Herald of Destruction” there, before proceeding inside Port Vocab for hopefully a solid run.
After it’s the Rotting Croplands Rift, and before entering the Royal Hive, I head towards the Gruesome Harvest Area and kill the purple boss at the end of that area, and naturally also have a good chance of running into the Atherial Nemesis here if I haven’t encountered him yet… than proceed back to the Royal hive and do that. I always do the Skittering Den (area inside the Hive), on my way towards that secret area inside the Den, kill the purple boss in there before going back up and going after the Hive Queen.
Next up on the trek, Blood Grove Rift, I’ll be here for awhile cause I use that rift as a center to go to 4 places near it. First up, is the StoneQuarry that’s North-East of the Rift I believe, and kill the Purple Boss there. Than back to the Rift, and make my way towards the Portal that leads towards the Ashen Waste… In there, a purple boss awaits and possible the Nemesis for the Cthonics as well, to go with a Treasure Trove somewhere in there as well. Than I’ll head back to the Rift again after I’m done, and make my way towards Fort Haron and do that. Finally finish that up, and make my way towards Darkvale Gate… Instead of taking the Rift Directly there, I walk to the Village, cause there’s that Purple Boss right before entering the Darkvale Gate you can do.
Darkvale Gate is up next, straight forward, head down to the 2nd floor and do the Boss at the end of it… Is this considered end of Act 3? I believe it personally is…
Act 4
Asterkarn Road Rift next, use this one because at the end of it, is the 3rd guardian for the Hidden Path… Also If you’re able to do it (I still can’t sadly), the Mad Queen as well.
Asterkarn Valley Rift is next, and before going into Tomb (Tomb of Karvok I believe it’s called) that’s to the Right of the Rift, I go up towards the shrine and try to find that Purple Yeti Boss, Ragnar Rothblood or something is his name. since his possible spawn points are pretty close together so their worth doing… Than after I proceed down to the Tomb and also make sure to do the 2 purple bosses in there (the other may be gated by Rep, you need to have chosen Kymon Chosen I believe , as that’s a hidden passage for it and it can only activate if you selected them I believe and did the quest at least once…)
next up, you can either take the Fort Ikon Rift, or simply trek up there from the asterkarn Valley rift, I prefer the little trek from the Valley cause ya know… “heroes”… towards the Tomb of the Archon and kill the Death Vigil Purple Boss there. Also don’t forget about the secret area in the Tomb, guaranteed Purple boss in that area, plus a Treasure Trove that’s very easy to find.
After it’s Fort Ikon, and make my way towards the armory and defeat Commander Lucius…
Next up, it’s Plans of Strife area to find the portal to go into the Forsaken Wastes, and make my way from there into the Obsidian throne for that purple boss. I generally clear most of the Forsaken Waste cause there’s usually a good assortment of Heroes and they all have a chance to drop Ch’thon’s blood which is big component for a lot of things (like Skeleton Keys and more importantly the Blacksmith Gambler in Tyrant’s hold) and also the chance of the Nemesis if I haven’t encountered him yet.
Once that’s over with, not much left, Gates of Necropolis Rift, and make my way towards the Black Sculpture I believe, also a good chance I run into the Atherial Nemesis there before entering the tomb if I haven’t already on my way towards that spot.
-After than, Tomb of Watchers rift, but before going inside there, I head towards the Bastion of Chaos and sometimes just clear the first area and don’t move on, or sometimes complete the rest and finish the other levels.
There’s pretty much what I do! :)… As you can see, it’s basically completing the entire game again I guess, but with a few notable areas being skipped…
In general without distractions, doing all this one go, takes about 2 and 1/2 to 3 hours at my current gear level. That’s naturally once you get the hang of everything and know where to go and all that fun stuff… Overall, i make out with about 3-5 legendaries or so per the entire run, if I throw in the Rogue Dungeons, the total goes up to about 6-8 or so. Naturally, because I do most content in the game I get a nice assortment of crafting components to use a the Blacksmith Vendor in Tyrants Hold.
Naturally, this just my path, feel free to cut half of this if you like and only do certain spots over and over again it can be just as efficient if not better than what I do. I just simply prefer a lot of variety in doing the same content over and over again , and this works out perfect for me.
I kill Fabius, then Arkovian for treasure troves and kill Moose if I find him on the way, then Twin falls.
I’ve had decent luck with act bosses and killing Heros/Nemesis along the way as someone else said.
I like the undercity personally
Sorry for the long quote but I just wanted to bring attention to this post. Thanks for taking the time to write all this out. I have been trying to figure out what the endgame is in GD (for myself) and this helps a lot, especially for those of us not particularly fond of Crucible (I’m working on it). Hitting 85 is really just the beginning but it’s easy to get hooked on gaining xp which leads to altitis in my case. As a result I don’t end up refining my chars which is actually very rewarding in this game.
There are many ways to do it and in Ultimate you can just run out into the wilderness and look for bosses. Your post points that out very well.
