1.1.9.8. (x64) video crashes to black screen at random times during play, any map. Occurs approx 15 - 30 minutes of play (today anyway). Audio still functions. Using NVIDIA driver 536.67 64-bit. Don’t ever recall having this problem before. I think that’s why I updated video driver. Failed to solve the problem. Is there a log file I should include or look at? I don’t see anything that looks useful.
Is it a laptop or PC? How high are your temperatures before this happens? Does it help if you lower video settings or limit framerate?
Watercooled PC 3X GTX-1080 running 2 cards (can’t get all 3 to run). Each running average of 38C to 40C. Framerate is about 60. Video settings are default except for UI scale. 4K monitor. Don’t think it’s a heat issue or setting issue. Haven’t had this happen before. Something must have recently changed to cause this. On a separate note, the buttons lost their labels in game for my Xbox controller, just empty circles where assignments should be. Controller works fine but labels disappeared. Like I said, something has changed.
I just ran Timespy stress test. It scored my system at 98%. The GPU temps averaged 51C and stayed tight in that range. Definitely higher than what I’m getting in GD. No overheating problems. So I’m about 98% confident that the black screen problem I’m experiencing in GD is a game bug issue, a recent one, say within 2 or 3 months.
have you tried verifying game files? reinstalling game?, reinstalling redistributables, etc the various common checks?
(clean) reinstalled gpu driver? updated gpu driver if not on the latest
tried disable auto item tooltip?,
disable steam overlay?,
other background stuff that might be running/causing potential interference?
Will need to test more. Re-installed and I haven’t had a crash yet. But I’m not sure if that did it or disabling steam overlay. I turned it back on and will test later.
Are you using mods? Grimarillion is know to cause crashes due to the number of orbs dropping wild amounts of loot if you don’t turn off tooltips. However, I experience crashes to black if I start a podcast before opening the game, FWIW.
As far as I can tell, the problem seems to be fixed after an uninstall and re-install of the game. Now the only minor bug is the empty controller assignments. I’m not sure how to reset this so the UI shows in game what radial skill goes with which controller button.
think i saw a reply somewhere from one of teh devs that will be fixed in next patch
no idea what it’s related to/“i don’t have that on mine” so it’s not totally universal, “maybe there is something you can do until the bugfix arrives?”(Lang pack? steam config? xyz "stuff?), but otherwise you might have to wait for v1.2 release or atleast playtest version
edit, couldn’t find the msg/comment where i thought dev said it would be fixed in next updated, but here is an example of potential fix until then
The controls display issue will be addressed in v1.2.

Is the black screening/crash going to be addressed in the next patch too then? We(my husband and I) also started having this issue in the last couple days and it’s crashed twice on the last shard of a set of 5 shards. Usually it’s the host that crashes.

It took an uninstall / re-install for me. Seems to be fixed now. Reminds me of Windows OS, though I haven’t had to do that in 6 years thankfully with Win 10.
Ok I guess the black screen is NOT fixed. Happened after about an hour.

turning off auto item tooltips? etc?

What’s SLI and this is happening on both me and the person I play with, seems odd that it would happen to both of us due to an item tooltip issue? Never happened before and we have over a hundred hours each.

for you i’d go through the “checklist” mentioned earlier just as basic/easy crossoff, doesn’t mean it fixes it but sometimes it’s a small thing that solves it

SLI was my first thought as well…
As Gnomish said, if disabling SLI and/or disabling item tooltips does not rectify the issue - then we’ve got quite a deep rabbit hole of diagnostics to run 
- Point being, it’s not the game that’s causing your issue. Something is up with your rig/computer (Be it hardware or software)
It’s not auto item tooltip.
Also still having the issue , don’t have SLI to disable btw.
