I wanted to try Gildor’s Pulverizer (Gildor's Pulverizer - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database) which in theory would give a significant boost to Nightblade’s Blade Spirit.
It provides the latter with flat 320 piercing damage, and with an approximate overall 2000% bonus to piercing damage in my build (considering also the changes in equipment) I was expecting to see an increase of at least 5000 damage.
To my surprise this was not the case. I barely saw an increase, which didn’t make much sense since Blade Spirit doesn’t get flat damage from any other items in my build.
Moreover, I couldn’t detect any sign of damage conversion (Pulverizer gives 100% cold damage converted to piercing damage to B.S.). In fact when checking the quickslot it shows cold damage to the B.S. Cold damage is also clearly visible against the Training Dummies, so probably no conversion at all.
Out of curiosity I tried converting through other items (29+29+52% elemental to piercing, plus another 32% cold to piercing) which probably worked. I’m not sure if there was an overall benefit in damage (it should), and it still shows cold damage for B.S. in the quickslot, but I saw no sign of it against the dummies.
Gildor’s Pulverizer additionally offers a generic elemental to piercing conversion which also doesn’t seem to work! I tried it with another pseudo-pet, the Nemesis (as well as with B.S.), and again cold damage was visible against the Training Dummies (and also when checking the quickslot). I tried converting with other items and got the same result as previously with B.S., namely it probably worked.
I am not sure if this is a bug with Gildor’s Pulverizer, or if I am missing something.
As far as I can tell, Blade Spirit does not deal frostburn damage (Grim Dawn Pet Database), so it must be cold damage that is shown against the Dummies.
If the tooltip doesn’t show conversions at all, even direct ones, how can I check them? My only clue are the visuals against opponents and the dummies, and only if the conversion is 100%.
so the gildor modifier made it jump from at most 200 to 400, even
with
the dmg isn’t increasing at all, it’s variable ticks between attacks, actually paying attention for more than 10 secs show the dmg remains the same/within the same range with gildor modifier on/off rank5 and same bonus dmg between tries
*modifier tooltip in my case shows dmg increase should be 1000
edit edit. i am aware i’m technically using a mod that has modified blade spirits to test this in (silly me - didn’t realize but don’t think it should conflict since Gildor modifier is still present in their tree?)
Indeed it does frostburn damage, but I kept a distance well outside my aura, so at least it didn’t affect testing the Blade Spirit (cold damage shouldn’t be present there after the conversion).
