Blockquote

How can I use blockquote? I can’t find anywhere how to do it yet everyone does it in their posts. Specificaly I mean how to quote several different posts in my one post. I managed to quote one specific post when I am directly replying to it. But nothing else.

Both of these work:

Yeah but that will not allow me to choose which post to quote. Or I don’t know how. It works if I am directly replying to somebody. But I can’t use it then for any other post.

I see that I can just select the text. Oh thanks. But what about the other option?

Use the first method in that case.

Basically, you left click and Drag on the text you want to quote. Once you release the mouse button, the "Quote in the grey box should appear. You can click on it to quote the text and repeat with as many posts from as many people as you want. Eg:

I still don’t get how to do it with that button for quoting when you are inside that window for writing text. But the selecting option is easy. But all very unintuitive.

This is how it will look in the window:

And yeah, it might take some time to get used to it

I am able to do it with the option that appears in the text when it is selected. I guess that it is enough. But how is one supposed to notice that? And the obvious option in the writing window just doesn’t work at all. Thank you.

Oh you mean using this? image

In that case you need to click on Reply > Quote Whole Post and Repeat that for each individual post you want to quote.

So essentially:

image > image

Yeah, not exactly something easy to figure out. I am not much of a fan of Discourse either, but we make do with what we have.

And the blockquote button in that window doesn’t do anything at all just writes this

Blockquote

That is because it is there for you to write something in quote format rather than quoting a post :stuck_out_tongue:

Eg:

Feed Me ICE CREAM!!!

Essentially it is only about the “>” . The text “Blockquote” is default text to be replaced by what you want to write there.

Thanks, I understand it now. But it is extremely unintuitive.

It’s easy… Highlight the text you want to block quote FIRST and then click the Blockquote button. It will automatically quote the text you have highlighted. You can also use a keyboard shortcut instead of clicking the buttons. Just mouse over the options in the editor and a tooltip will popup showing you what the key combinations are. Blockquote is Ctrl+Shift+9. Just highlight your text and and press the shortcut keys. Done.

Most of the options in the editor work the same. Simply highlight the text you want to edit and then press the button or the shortcuts.

The forum is run on Discourse forum software. Looks like there is a guide here:

…that covers the various facets of using the forum.

You can also use Markdown for formatting text as well:
