So Blood Orb of Ch’thon has an active skill: 100% Elemental Damage converted to Chaos Damage.
Im playing a Conjurer with a lot of vitality and chaos damage. Right now i’m trying to have as many skills with % chance on attack. Such as doombolt from Doomtouch, Rhowari Waistguardand Anarchy.
Some items, such as Gurgoth have % chance on attack. But its elemental damage. I suppose Blood Orb of Ch’thon helps here? Sadly the tooltip does not upgrade the damage-type.
Same question goes for some Devotion skills:
Reckless Tempest from Temepst does lighting damage. Will i get tiny little chaosbolts instead of lightning damage? And what happens with “30% Chance of +100% Lightning Damage” when it triggers from the Tempest devotiontree?
Will +%lighting damage help since its converted into chaos?
I have alot of vitality resistance reduction from Curse of Frality and Devouring Swarm but no reduction for chaos. Should i go for Solael’s Witchblade?
From my testing with the blood orb, elemental damage (Fire+ Cold+Electricity) is actually turned into Chaos damage.
You can see it, placing the mouse cursor over the Skill Damage displayed in the tab 2 of the charcater sheet.
I tested it with Fireball and IceSpike from components and it worked as intended.
There’s no way to check or test what damage type procs from items or devotions really does.
I’m assuming the conversion actually affects those things but I have no idea in which order %damage bonus types are applied, so I don’t know if you would better stack %elemental damage or %chaos damage.
Debuffing resistance to chaos can be done through Solael’s Witchblade, Fang of Chthon (weapon) and any other thing mentioning #Reduced target resistances for x seconds (the flat bonus doesn’t stack if I remember correctly) like the Plaguebearer’s affix or even the -of the abyss suffix ( %Reduced target’s resistances for x seconds)
I would advise getting Solael’s witchblade if you plan on using the blood orb.
The Blood Orb skill converts all Elemental Damage from skills (including skill procs and Devotion procs), but does not change the DoT Elemental types (Burn, Frostburn, Electrocute). For example, it converts the Cold/Lightning Damage from Trozan’s Sky Shard to full Chaos Damage and it also converts the Cold Damage from the Blizzard Devotion proc as well! Comes in handy for sure…
The conversion happens first, then any % Damage from items and Passives is added, so you should not itemize for +% Elemental Damage, but should for +% Chaos Damage.
The suggestions for debuffing Chaos Resistance is good from above, but I would add that you can use the Necrosis relic skill to reduce Elemental (useless here)/Aether/Chaos Resists as well as dropping movement speed. It helps!
No, there’s always only one conversion taking place, physical dmg already converted to elemental dmg via IEE won’t be converted another time to smth else, only things doing elemental/fire/cold/lightn. dmg by default will be converted to chaos with blood rite.
AFAIK yes, doesn’t matter what is converted to what from where, there’s always only one conversion process happening, no “chain conversions” possible. In your example, the elemental dmg would only be converted to chaos, not then in another step be converted to aether. But, ofc, if you deal chaos dmg other than the converted from elemental, a part of that would be converted to aether, but not of the already converted (to chaos) part.
