Since you asked, graphically/stylistically it’s pretty cool, but I’m not a fan of the collectible card mechanics. That said, I may look at it again when it releases.
In the video it says “run like hell!”. Shouldn’t it say “hop like hell?”. The game looks ok, and I don’t give a crap about graphics, only gameplay, but that “hopping” just doesn’t look right. Hopefully movement will be more fluid when it releases. Definitely keep an eye on this one though. May even pre-order, if they fix that.
Old thread, but I didn’t feel like starting a new one.
Anyways, I’ve been watching some YT Let’s Play on this game and it looked pretty cool, so I picked it up.
It’s basically a re-imagining of Diablo 1 right down to Deckard Cain with flavor text like “stay and listen a while” instead of “stay awhile and listen”.
You adventure under a Church instead of a Cathedral and one of the bosses is the Chef instead of the Butcher. Anyways you get the idea. Lots more tweaked D1 references.
Even though it’s a card based game, it’s plenty of fun. The cards work like skills on the skill bar and not like they do in Hearthstone, if that’s what you card haters were thinking. Basically the skills work like tome drops and you learn and equip them. If you have played Wolcen, think of them as Tomes.
For example, there’s a town portal card, a health potion card that you add charges to instead of carrying potions, plus all the offensive and defensive cards for things like charge and magic shields. And there are runes you can apply to cards.
A game demo is coming this month, so keep an eye out for it.
The Return 2 Gaming devs will be making 7 different games that are re-imaginings of classic computer games. I can’t wait to see what else they come out with.
Well, it’s fusing runes together to upgrade your cards, actually. I wasn’t clear on that.
Here’s a short video showing fusing.
I’ve just started playing it and don’t really have the runes, or currency, for upgrades, so I was basing my original comment on YT videos.
In any case, it’s a decent game. I think they have around 160+ achievements, loads of cards, and interesting mechanics. For me, that’s enough to enjoy a game for a few hundred hours.
