Use Canister bomb as a group stun, flashbang for slows. Mine has the hidden buff of -50% lgihtning/fire resist. Use stun jacks and mortar to keep guys in place then blow them up.
Between Overload, Flame Touched, Ulzuin’s Chosen and Mines, you have about +250% each of your elements, -50% fire/lightning resist, and +200% physical.
Man, I just saw a video somewhere here on the forums within the past day or two with someone using Flash Freeze and Grenado in ultimate BoC and just crushing entire screens. I don’t think there was a build associated with it as I think it’s a for fun build someone was playing around with. I wish I could remember where I saw it. It may have been in the Calidor’s Tempest thread by Most, although I don’t think it was Most who was messing with the build.
If I remember correctly, Flash Freeze’s -fire resist and AoE range hyperscales at 22/12, and also freezes almost the entire screen. I’m still pretty new to the game (don’t let my join date fool you, I didn’t play much until release) so I’m not sure on the details, but I think there was a certain item necessary. I think it may convert all cold damage into fire or something? I’m going to try and find the post but I think it is similar to what you want to do.
Edit:
I dug through my youtube history and found the video, still don’t know where it came from though.
After getting high enough to try Mortar and Thermite Mines, I can say that while they look good on paper, they are both very underwhelming skills. Mortar missile travel is much too slow, by the time the shell hits, the target is dead or it’s moved. The mortar only hit’s about 50% of it’s shots to begin with, and the damage when it does doesn’t make up for it.
Mines are fun, but shoot a stationary DoT that does fairly weak damage. Throwing them into a group is fun, but once it’s thinned out, the mine’s tiny radius is no longer hitting anyone, and this doesn’t go up with skills. You either have to throw more mines or kite around the existing ones. The damage is fairly weak to begin with, and it makes mines a poor skill except for opening, and so it’s not worth the points.
The build linked above inspired me to try blackwater cocktail. At first it looked weak to me, but upon putting some points into it, the damage radius is MUCH bigger than the animation. By ditching lightning jacks, I’m able to focus solely on fire/burn/phy damage, and with Flash Freeze, all my skills can benefit from it now.
I’m leveling a Cocktail/Thermite sorcerer in Elite right now… a lot of great cocktail gear also gives bonuses to Thermite, figured I might as well try it. I haven’t been disappointed in the Thermites so far. That resistance debuff is good, and with Flash Freeze/Canister Bomb stun you get a nice combo where you CC your enemies for ages on top of the mines. Additionally, you can just throw them at your feet and let Blast Armor/Mirror shield you from harm while the enemy gets incinerated.
Cocktail resistance debuff + Olexra + Thermite + Witchfire devotion adds up to a lot of negative fire/lightning/chaos resistances.
Ah, yeah. It does have the build right at the end, doesn’t it?
That will teach me to stop watching a video before the end. But, yes. I’m leveling a sorc right now and I’m going to be playing around with calidor’s tempest and with this grenade build too. That flash freeze along with grenades looks really fun.
No devotions that I saw, but I think it might be close to the HP/HP Regen setups that a lot of people are running. With Tree of Life, Behemoth, and Obelisk.
