20 minutes doesn’t do the series justice, especially if you mostly just saw gameplay.
I enjoy Borderlands not just for the gameplay (looter shooter, interesting and often whacky character classes/weapons/mechanics) but also for the side characters (YMMV on some of these but I personally like all of them), side quests and co-op. It all just comes together really well - Borderlands has a special kind of charm to it.
Tiny Tina’s Attack on Dragon Keep for example really highlights what I’m talking about.

I never played a FPS before Borderlands and I never played the more difficult “levels”…but the story alone, the art and especially Tiny Tina´s was worth every Euro I spent.
I’ve still yet to play Tiny Tina’s DLC, which given all the love for it is a fluffing crime. Got burned out on the monster hunting DLC before I got around to trying Tina’s one ;-;
On that I do more or less agree. In their rush to get off the ground with it the focus was all about the developers while ignoring that the end-user experience is just as important (in many ways, more important).
To compete directly with Steam they might have found much less blowback from critics if the launcher/store was much more “complete”, feature-wise, from the start.
I feel that work should have started on the program well before going public with everything. They could have just as easily been securing developers behind-the-scenes before going “live” with it.
For now tho they’ll just have to live with it and make do until the end-user experience is better. I did like how they came in swinging like crazy out of nowhere and I do rather think they just might be “in” good enough that Epic VS Steam is going to be a thing for a while. I can only imagine that Gabe might be perpetually scowling from here on out thanks to Epic turning the room upside down around them.
BL3 is going to do fine no matter where they decide to stick it. Hell, the franchise is strong enough they could go full Blizzard with it if they really wanted and say FU to all the storefronts.
I’m kind of mad about the Epic thing, but probably not for the reasons others are.
I absolutely would have purchased BL3 on day-one if it was a permanent, Epic-store exclusive…but it isn’t. And now I’m questioning whether I should just wait six months because the option will eventually be there to play it on Steam, where most of my friends will be. I don’t especially want to buy the game twice, after all.
The more I think on it, the more I think I’ll have to pass on BL3’s initial launch, which is really saddening to me. Some of my friends have very good reasons why they won’t buy it on Epic (e.g., setting aside money that’s already in their Steam wallets for the game) so Steam really does kind of have a monopoly on a game that isn’t even announced on its platform yet.
As I said on the GD Discord (in the off-topic section), I’m sure BL3 will sell “well” on Epic, but I doubt it’ll sell “like a Borderlands game.”
Exactly this plus if they release any more DLC during the 6 month initial release.
When I see a movie playing in Theatres that I am sorta interested in seeing I’ll wait for my local library to eventually get it’s hand on it.
Only thing that will be missed would be the initial hype and most likely spoilers when it comes to the plot and such. Nowadays it is better to wait before jumping on board when it comes to a game and to a lesser extent a movie so you actually know that it will be good based on initial reviews and whether supporting the creators of said game or movie would be wise.
It will be interesting to see how the whole Steam vs Epic showdown pans out. Short term wise Epic is doing decently well with a lot of pizzazz but I am not too sure when it comes to the long term.
Oh lordy, don’t they know, Randy enjoys trolling people? All they’re doing is further feeding his over-inflated ego and making him stronger.
Besides that, this was 2K’s decision, not really Gearbox’s, since 2K are publishing the damn game, and I suspect, have a contract with Gearbox vis the Borderlands IP and publishing rights. As Gearbox have their own publishing arm these days and can certify games for the consoles
Dunno but a quick search pulls this kinda stuff up…
Essentially confirms my gut feeling. There is a whole mess of people out there more than willing to buy these “exclusives” on Epic and thus validate every move they’ve made to date. And the more you see stuff like this become news the better and better their “exclusives” do at every turn (as long as the game itself isn’t a total bomb).
It’s why I say that they really are “in” there now.
I haven’t bought any games directly from them yet but I have been more than willing to snap up the bi-weekly freebies and there are definitely 2 or 3 games I certainly wouldn’t mind snagging up eventually on there. The Hades game I find rather interesting.
very excited for borderlands 3.
but i’m not watching any trailers or gameplay promos…
:undecided:
i don’t want to get hyped, then suffer disappointment from overexpectation.
i just want to experience borderlands 3 myself. i trust gearbox fully in this case.
gonna play it preferably after several patches & dlcs… that’s not weird, isn’t
