Build 30: Balancing Pass and Bug Fixing

That’s awesome, and it came earlier than expected! Oh and buffs to Bloody Pox, that’s just amazing. Thanks!

If only they hadn’t broken it at the same time. :frowning:

Discord: bonuses updated. Now converts up to 50% of Physical damage to Elemental.

This changes everything (for the better) for my Battlemage and Warder! Thanks for cleaning that alternative up!

Where the hell is castable Chain Lightning. I’m still salty.

All I kept hearing about was how this patch would bring balance to the game, especially Ultimate. What I thought would be for everyone, I was sorely mistaken.

I lost 4.5k dps and 500 health on my Dual Blades Blademaster.

Were not getting it until mods, but atleast we now have a ranged Thunderous Strike which is pretty close to it

I’m not understanding your statement probably, but I’ll do my best to answer.

You were able to beat all of those games with sub-optimal builds. In fact short of going out of your way to avoid AOE skills, most of them are pretty much impossible not to end up as an overpowered beast. As far as BiS gear is concerned, most of the games you didn’t even need it to stroll through bosses like a gate made of loot. A most recent example of this is Diablo III where prior to build 2.4, you could get the best set for you class in under 3 hours if you cared to. I have not played 2.4, but the patch notes made it sound even easier these days.

If you’re trying to tell me you don’t think all builds should be viable, then that’s entirely your prerogative. I feel Grim Dawn’s strength as a game is how diverse you can build your characters however, so making more builds viable is appealing to me.

If you’re trying to say more builds should be viable without nerfing the overall content of the game, then I completely agree. Problem is for build ideas like frost mages and such, there can be plenty of gear to buff your cold damage but the skills as a whole are just bad, and the main strength of freezing enemies is lost on bosses. In that case they would have to do more than release balancing patches. They’d have to add in entirely new skills either through items or skill tree additions.

The main point of my post was simply to point out that no matter what they do, difficulty is going to come down to the player. ARPGs are easy in the sense that you almost have to try to make a character fail at completing content, whereas it’s very easy to make a character that will clear it with a little work if not effortlessly.

Have you tried playing instead of just looking at numbers as you can only see the changes to your char and not any changes to the mobs, try it in game and see how it plays instead of being fixated on numbers.

Rip social life for a while.

Primal strike, welcome to my rifles!

I thought in B29 you could use Primal Strike with 2H Ranged.

Couldn’t agree more. Its painful to look at now.

Also, my shield based physical build got destroyed. It needed a nerf (investing in just shield training and overguard to be unkillable might have been a biiiit op), but now it gets 1 shot by every single boss. Why are you removing other sources of %block and %block recovery? I would think that the nerfs to the skills would be enough, forcing people to get gear to bring their shield defenses back up to par. Now I wonder if shields are even worth the loss of 2hand / duel weild dps. The loss of %damage reduction on blindside also hurt - yes it was redundant with war cry, but I didn’t want to build warcry. 50% damage boost and 100 reduced DA is not a lot for a 12 point investment imo.

Besides those two points, the rest looks great so far.

The new map looks like something out of a mobile game. While it is “prettier”, it is also very glossy and colorful, and feels out of place in Grim Dawn. I much preferred the old map; it was more in line with the feel of Grim Dawn, and felt like it had more detail in it.

I am also bummed out that Messenger of War proc does not allow you to go over the disappointingly low 130% move speed cap. What is the point of a proc that gives you 15%+ movement speed if you would have to gimp yourself when the proc is not up in order to gain anything from it?

It was broken, plus now you can use Thunderous Strike

This update is the best birthday present ever, thank you Crate!

I’m confident this question has been answered in this thread, but I’m too eager to get in the game to read all of it:

Are extant items buffed according to the changes in this build upon starting up the new build for the first time, or will we all have a lot of (mostly inferior) pre-patch items in our possession for a while?

Unless explicitly stated, changes to items are retroactive.

Now that we have a Trozan set, can we get a Sigil set? Chaos Casters need love too.

that’s the thing brothers !

I feel the same, its color is too vivid, not grim enough, please tone down the colors. It reminds me of D3’s Whimsyshire.

Edit : OMG, Devastation, my love!!

Wow, cool. Thanks!

Old map with the new shrine information would have been ideal.
