Building maintenance late game

Anyone else find building maintenance late in the game, becomes unmanageable?

I have 800 people, 100 builders and building repairs are still not happening. I am not building any new buildings so everything should be under control.

Which version of the game are you on? Do you have enough labourers to bring the materials needed for the buildings to be repaired?

0.8.

Could be that. Impossible to tell. Would be good to have info so I know how to fix.

Was is a good ratio of builders.

Labourers were around 100 as well, so should not be the issue

The number in the Red Circle is the number of Laborers your town has.

As long as that number is White in color your Laborer supply is sufficient.

If one of your workers is ill or has passed away, a Parenthesis 14(1) will appear after this number.

Scanning the Professions table will show you where this shortage is, and allow you to fix it.

If your labor pool becomes too small for the size of the town, the Laborer number will show RED by itself, indicating a shortage of Laborers available.

If you preload your builders with too many building projects then your building maintenance chores will be put on hold.

I have played with the number of laborer, up and and down. I bumped up the number of builders to try to get past the back log. I would just like the builder count to be Orange, if the number is incorrect.

or if you have building need fixing, it tells you the problem

Maybe turn down the number of builders you have (120) to what the game suggests you need (58). Then you’d have more labourers which you’re short of. And I think if you hover over the icon above a building that needs repairing it’ll tell you what it needs in the way of materials. Also are you sure you haven’t turned off the auto upgrading for houses - top right of the game screen (not visible in your screenshots).

Is 58 the recommended number. I always wondered about that number.

Well, that tells you how many you need at any given point in the game which is why it will read zero if you’re not building anything and increase depending on how much building you have going on.

You are short on Laborers, Miners, Work Camp Workers, Healers, and Farmers.

One of your Foragers and two of your Hunters are sick or injured, (they are seeking medicine) and need replacing because they are not working.

You have the potential to have up to 120 Laborers assigned as Builders, and of them 58 are actually working as such.

If you have 58 Builders working, it means you have a very large backlog of building projects placed on the map.

None of your repair and maintenance requirements will be serviced while you have a building backlog.

Place no more building projects until the number of working Builders has dropped to one or zero, and all your current projects are complete.

At that point you will begin to see the needed repairs being completed.

So I have no active building site at the moment, but my professions widget says I need 16 builders? I do have repairs I need done

That’s probably why then.

The Worker numbers are Active and Potential (X/Y).

You assign the Potential (Y).

The Active (X), is the actual number working at building something, which varies according to how many building footprints you have placed on the map.

The need for more Builders may be higher than you have allotted for.

You can adjust Potential (Y) up to see where your need levels out.

As building projects are completed, the Active (X) automatically drops to the actual number needed.

This allows you to see how many Builders you can freely release back into the Laborer pool if you need or choose to do so.

Thanks, I have learnt a lot about this. I now have a good understanding.

Would be good to show how many builder are needed, and have unused builders automatically released as labourers.

If builders aren’t needed they go back into the labour pool.

The Active number is how many you need.

The Potential number is of how many Laborers may become Builders if needed.

If they are not needed, they are/become Laborers again.
