Buy Writs or save iron?

Hi all. I am currently playing through my first character (Warder) and having a blast! I’m level 47 right now and am going through Blood Grove at the moment.

I have reached Honored with a couple of factions, namely Devil’s Crossing and Rovers, and maybe Homestead too, and I’m wondering if I should buy the Writs or if it’s better to save my iron.

I have about 200,000 iron, but buying Writs for each faction will be quite an investment. I don’t really use iron to buy much right now, but I don’t want to waste it all and then need it later.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

At this point, you will only ever use iron for two things: 1. Crafting, and 2. Buying faction items. Writs will help you be eligible for more faction items faster (get the armor augments!). So do that. Just remember that Writs and Mandates do not stack.

And buying Writs is basically a one-time thing, right? From now on I will buy Mandates for all my other characters?

That’s right. Get your reputation up to maximum and use that to buy mandates for other characters.

You should buy writs of Devil’s Crossing. Homestead and Rovers are easy to get reputation. Later on, buy writs of Black Legion as well, Outcast is easy to get.

Yeah, I’ve read that Black Legion can be harder.

So Devil’s Crossing and Black Legion are the priority? How many more are there? Homestead, Rovers, Outcast, Kymon’s Chosen…any others?

Those are all the ally factions that exist.

priority is dependent on your build for example your building a fire or lightning build character kymon’s is important. If your building a bleeding ranged character legion is important and if your building a health regen character rovers and homestead. But if your looking to complete all unique components since this is your 1st character like bloody whetstone orleon’s blood and so on all factions are important.

In the past I liked to lvl fast Rovers for the augments for rings/amulet. Especially if you’re a new player with no gear, the Rovers have the best overall augments for resist/health. If you have good gear you/ll probably eventually end up using the augment from Devil’s Crossing that gives oa/da/%damage.
You can finish that faction to it’s maximum lvl in normal or Elite Difficulty quite easily. Normal if you wanna farm more Undeads in the first Difficulty for better gear, in Elite otherwise.

Another one is the Black Legion that you might like fast because quite often it might be a bit harder to covers aether and chaos resistances for a new player.
Especially once you’re in Ultimate Digfficulty.

So all in all I’d say Rovers followed by Black Legion.
You might end up using some other augments from other factions but those 2 are 2 good ones for most cases, I feel!

Thanks for the feedback! I will try to get them all then. Turns out I was wrong about my iron. I have 400k. But even that won’t be enough for all of them! :slight_smile:

Yep, the writs (and the odd blue print) are the only thing i really spend iron on.

Black Legion is not that easy to ge reputation, i am lvl 71 Elite and i am very close to “Honored”.

Can’t wait to buy the writ, revered at Devil’s Crossing, Homestead almost there.

Keep the Pine Barren for when you get to Writ and it will basicly close your need for Reputation. Now that I have the Mandate for everyone they all reach Revered by the end of Elite (Supply quest is ALWAYS going to the Black Legion since Homestead is so damn easy to max)
